Smash Ultimate has quite a lot to offer for friends of every Nintendo franchise… whether we like it or not. Yes, it’s time to talk about Wario: the farting, garlic-loving, con artist equivalent of Nintendo’s beloved mascot. He’s back in Super Smash Bros. once again and still out to prove he’s just about the grossest character in the series. Not one, but two of his abilities involve obvious flatulence. Who knows? Maybe that gives him some kind of psychological edge over the rest of this enormous roster.

Wario first appeared in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins on the Game Boy, in one of the rare instances where Bowser (or one of his progeny) wasn’t Mario’s main antagonist. Nowadays, Wario is less of a villain and more of a general agent of chaos. He’s also basically unchanged from his previous Super Smash Bros. incarnation.
According to their official Nintendo character description…
Wario has unique attacks, like using his Wario Bike and releasing noxious gas. He can jump higher than normal by leaping from his bike, which comes in handy when recovering. For his Final Smash, he turns into Wario-Man and creates copies of himself for an all-out attack!
Wario Moves
Chomp (B) – Eats enemies, projectiles, and items with a big, toothy bite.
Wario Bike (Side + B) – Rides around on a bike and crashes into enemies. Takes some time to recharge.
Corkscrew (Up + B) – Jumps while spinning, hitting opponents multiple times.
Wario Waft (Down + B) – Releases noxious gas from his rear end. It, uh…”charges” automatically.
Wario-Man (Final Smash) – Wario wolfs down garlic and delivers a headbutt. Any foes hit by the headbutt are forced to deal with multiple Wario-Men’s striking fists of justice. Finally, Wario-Man launches the foes with carefully stored flatulence.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
The alter-Mario has developed a persona of his own over the years, reflected by the WarioWare influence among his moves in Smash Ultimate. Wario is still a heavyweight who packs a solid punch, with out-of-the-box moves that really frustrate opponents. His motorcycle is arguably his signature move. It’s a potent tool in large, multi-fighter melees.
Weaknesses
Wario still struggles a bit in odd areas, though. He doesn’t have quite the same ring-out power as other big guys on the roster. In a one-on-one match, he loses some of his luster. Big moves can turn into big whiffs, leaving Wario swinging helplessly at the air while a faster character punishes his overreach. Play smart and know when to swing for the fences. That moment just comes for Wario later than other big boys.1
Outfits
Wario actually gets quite a lot of variety with his selection of alternate suits. Maybe that fits with such an eclectic personality? Whatever the case, his default outfit is his biker getup, but he comes with his traditional yellow and purple. He also has a knockoff Mario and Luigi skin. All of them look pretty good (by Wario standards) thanks to his incredibly expressive face.

And that’s the scoop on this deranged doppelganger. Of course, while Wario might look like his plumber nemesis, he plays pretty differently from the standard Mario. So make sure to take that into consideration. Just practice his unconventional attack styles and you should be fine. Or, at the very least, you’ll weird your opponent out enough that they walk away.
