A new content update for Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has arrived just in time for May the 4th. Introducing a bunch of features – including the highly requested New Game Plus – players can now also use a red-colored lightsaber. Unavailable when the game first launched, fans could only pick from a selection of other colors that were used by the Jedi. However, users can finally embrace the dark side with this update and rock a red lightsaber through almost the entirety of Jedi: Fallen Order.
How to Get the Red Lightsaber
In order to unlock the red lightsaber and Inquisitor outfit for Cal you will need to first beat the entire game on any difficulty. These items are unavailable, regardless of your progression, unless you complete the full campaign and then select New Journey + at the Main Menu. You will need to play through the opening Prologue where Cal is a scrapper and is discovered to be a Jedi by the Empire. This section is unavoidable, but thankfully quite short given the combat sequence is extremely straightforward.
After you beat the Prologue and land on the first planet, go to the workbench in Cal’s room on the ship. Interact with the bench and then select Lightsaber Colors. You can now freely embrace the dark side by selecting the red Kyber Crystal. Doing so will automatically make your lightsaber blade red both in cutscenes and actual gameplay. Picking the red lightsaber won’t have any negative effects or give you access to additional abilities, this is strictly an aesthetic choice.

Additionally, you will be able to select from two new lightsaber sets – Protection and Defense I & II – which are actually available at Disney’s Galaxy Quest theme park. Finally, you can put Cal in the Inquisitor set to really sell his acceptance of the dark side. Unlike the lightsaber color, you can change Cal’s outfit once you gain control of him in the Prologue. Just open up the menu, scroll over to the “Customization” tab, and select Appearance. From here you can swap between Cal’s normal look and the Inquisitor appearance. Similar to the lightsaber color, wearing this won’t alter the mechanics or change any story moments.
Keep in mind, New Journey + will not carry over Cal’s abilities and lightsaber parts. You will need to relearn his skills and collect the different upgrades for the lightsaber. Instead, only cosmetic items you’ve collected will carry over along with any chests that were previously opened remaining that way. So if you are restarting the game hoping to cut through hordes of Stormtroopers with a plethora of awesome abilities you might want to reconsider trying this mode. We suspect this is because if Cal had access to his skills the entire progression and route for the game would change.
But if you want to make the Emperor proud of your scary red lightsaber than this update is for you.
