Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order might be the hottest collaborative effort for the Star Wars universe since Adidas convinced Ian Brown, Noel Gallagher, David Beckham, Snoop Dogg and Daft Punk to reshoot the Cantina scene. This isn’t a joke, look it up. Throughout your adventure the force is always there to lend a helping hand, a little push in the right direction, but there are a few things it doesn’t tell you.
To save you agonising over how to get around the tricky force fields frustratingly obtuse map, we’ve compiled the following tips to help you get a leg up when it comes to Jedi: Fallen Order.
Camp Out at a Campfire for More XP
Right the rest stop aren’t actually called campfires, in fact they are called Meditation Spots. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order rightfully points out that their purpose is predominantly replenish health and level up. What Star Wars doesn’t do a particularly great job of explaining is that upon resting the enemies in the vicinity respawn. This creates a prime opportunity to farm enemies extensively. So keep an eye out for some spots with large waves of enemies in close proximity and use them for a much needed boost of experience.
Get Down With BD-1
Like all droids in the Star Wars universe, BD-1 is integral to every mission’s success. BD-1 will draw your attention to the correct path to take, point out interactive parts of the scenery, and generally help you along your way. So, when BD-1 drops off your back, be sure to pay attention and follow him wherever he takes you. You’ll more than likely get a bit of experience at the very least or a rare collectible if you’re lucky.
Know The Different Kinds of Chests
Not all chests were created equal and as a result there are literal tiers of chests in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Your basic chest, the one with a blue exterior and white lights, often contains some fairly common cosmetic loot. Then there’s a similar chest but with red lights which contains (arguably) cooler cosmetic loot. Finally there’s the yellow chest, the most coveted of the chests. Yellow chests are usually much harder to find and contain an extra stim canister for BD-1 which increase the number of times you can heal between resting.
Check Your Enemies Health Bar
Some enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order can be stunned for fatal finishers, some can’t. The easiest way to check this is by locking on to them. When locked on the opponent will either have one green bar or a green bar and a white bar. If the opponent has a white bar, you’ll be able to parry them and wear down their guard with attacks. When these enemies reach a certain health threshold — which is different based on who you are fighting and what difficulty you’re playing on — you can perform a devastating killing blow.
Take a Picture When You First Defeat Enemies
There are a rare few people that get away with taking photos of the dead; Crime Scene photographers, Morticians, and Jedi Knights. When you kill an enemy for the first time in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it’s imperative that you get a snapshot of the deceased. Doing so will build a portfolio of slaughter and the subsequent data entries in your inventory will tell you how those enemies are best felled.
Comb Each Area Over
There are hundreds of tidbits strewn across the universe. From plant seeds to ancient glyphs on the walls of the caves you find yourself in, there’s always something tucked away in the corner. Each little item you find slowly but surely increase you experience. While BD-1 will usually nod towards the more obvious items, you will have to get relatively close to the item first, so make sure you’re always skirting the boundaries of the play zones.
You Can Come Back to Old Areas With Upgrades
Much like the Dropkick Murhpys, you need to know when it’s time to bounce — even when your inner completionist insists that you must be able to complete an area before you leave. Fallen Order is a Metroidvania of sorts. As the story progresses you will unlock upgrades and powers that make traversal a bit easier and you’ll literally find ways to smash through that wall you were beating your head against early on.
Revisit Old Worlds to Discover Hidden Areas
While the sentiment above does ring true, it’s important not to forget about the distant worlds of the early campaign when your knee deep in storm troopers. Returning to older worlds will give you an opportunity to fight mysterious creatures and explore areas you couldn’t previously access.
The Map Tracks Collectibles
When you feel like you’ve totally scored off an area, you can confirm this hunch by checking your map. If you look a little closer at the bottom left of the map you’ll see that it tells you how many secrets are available in the area and just how many chests you’ve found.
Finding Workbenches Is Important
Workbenches are seemingly innocuous parts of the background in Jedi: Fallen Order, but the reality is they are anything but. Workbenches are stowed away for a reason: they hold important and helpful upgrades. While some may be fairly obvious given that they’re part of story progression, there are a few you could easily miss that provide some of the best upgrades in the game – like a dual lightsaber.
Find a Difficulty That Suits You
There’s no shame in playing on a difficulty that best suits your ability. If you’re struggling with parrying specific attacks, dropping the difficulty creates a larger window to perform the parry. The same can be said if you feel overwhelmed by hordes of enemies, you can tweak that too during the course of the story. No matter what the reason is, you can always pause and go to the options just to see what impact lowering the difficulty will have on your time with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
And with that last tip, you should be well on your way transforming from a bright eyed Padawan in to a fully fledged Jedi Master, force ghost and all.
