Mr. Final Fantasy himself is taking a crack at the hardest content that Final Fantasy XIV has to offer. Earlier this morning, Hironobu Sakaguchi, director of multiple entries since the first Final Fantasy and considered the father of the franchise, decided to take on Dragonsong’s Reprise. He tweeted about his entrance into the raid this morning.

That encounter is the latest Ultimate duty, a series of extremely difficult fights that are reimagined versions of past fights. Dragonsong’s Reprise (Ultimate) is a boss gauntlet framed as an alternate timeline for the events and battles from Heavensward, but it is an instance few players can clear.
It doesn’t look like the fight went well for Sakaguchi, however. Many hours later, he tweeted about taking on Aglaia, the current Alliance Raid, which seemed to have gone better for Sakaguchi, as he posted a picture with his raid party at the end of the instance. Worry not for Sakaguchi, though — Ultimates usually take several days and numerous attempts to clear because of their length, difficulty, and complexity
It’s been a long road for Sakaguchi in FFXIV. He started playing the MMO back in late September last year, with many assuming he was doing so because of an upcoming talk with FFXIV creative director and producer Naoki Yoshida at Tokyo Game Show 2021. It lit the spark in him, however, with Sakaguchi finishing Heavensward in two days, Stormblood in six, and Shadowbringers in a mere four days.
He completed Endwalker in January, but he wasn’t done, diving deep into crafting and beginning his Sakagucci in-game brand as a Weaver. Sakaguchi has even completed the Savage tier of the Pandaemonium Asphodelos raid series, to add to his recent accomplishments. The father of Final Fantasy truly lives the franchise, even as he continues to make new experiences with his own studio Mistwalker, like the recent mobile RPG Fantasian.
