Getting your Augmented Resistance Weapon is the first real step on your journey to creating one of the Relic Weapons introduced during the Shadowbringers expansion. Forging the Resistance Relic Weapons is no small task, as is true with any of the Relics in Final Fantasy XIV. This weapon set includes farming items, learning a new leveling system inside of the Bozjan Southern Front, and sinking many hours into the related content.
Check out our main guide for the Resistance Relic Weapons for help with the entire process.
How to Unlock Your Resistance Relic Weapon
The first step on your journey to craft a weapon worthy of the resistance, is to unlock the Bozjan Southern Front. This instanced content is closely tied to the creation of the Resistance Relic Weapon set, and you'll be spending a good chunk of time here.
Doing the quests to unlock Bozja will give you your first base Relic weapon to start off your journey with. For any additional weapons, you'll need to do the repeatable quest Resistance Is (Not) Futile. This quest will give you another base Relic weapon for whichever Job you were on when you accepted the quest, in exchange for four Thavnairian Scalepowder which can be purchased under the "Special Arms" tab with 250 Tomestones of Poetics each.

The vendors that sell Thavnairian Scalepowder are as follows:
- Auriana in Mor Dhona (X: 22.7, Y: 6.6)
- Hismena in Idyllshire (X: 5.7, Y: 5.2)
- Rowena's Representative - various locations
- Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X: 9.0, Y: 11.1)
- Ul'dah - Steps of Nald (X: 9.1, Y: 8.3)
- New Gridania (X: 11.9, Y: 12.3)
- Foundation (X: 10.5, Y: 11.8)
Upgrading Your Relic to Augmented Resistance
Next, you’ll have a bit of a grind ahead of you. To upgrade your Relic to the Augmented Resistance, you’ll need Tortured, Sorrowful and Harrowing memories of the Dying. In order to get these, you’ll need to progress through the Bozjan Southern Front.
While farming up all those Memories of the Dying can take a while, the actual steps to upgrade your weapon are simple. Once you have all the required memories, make sure you have your base weapon with you, and go to Gangos to take the quest “For Want of a Memory” from Zlatan (X: 6.1, Y: 4.9).
Completing the quest is as simple as making sure you have your base weapon with you but not equipped, and having all 60 memories in your inventory. Hand them all over to Zlatan, and he'll give you your Augmented Resistance Weapon.

How to Get Tortured, Sorrowful and Harrowing Memories of the Dying
The materials needed for this step of your Resistance Relic Weapon are various Memories of the Dying. These items aren't difficult to get, but you do need quite a few of them. For every weapon you want to upgrade, you need 20 of each type of these memories. You'll get some during your progress through the Southern Front, as long as you make sure you have the quest "For Want of a Memory" active. You do not need to be on the class you took the quest on. As long as the quest is actively in your Journal, you will be able to get these items.
Inside the Southern Front, these are not guaranteed drops, so you might need to keep farming memories after you’ve finished raising your Resistance Rank. You can either do this in Bozja, or you can use the other option available; Heavensward FATEs. These FATEs are guaranteed to drop a memory, so many players opt to farm them this way as it is more reliable.
Memory | Random Drop | Guaranteed Drop |
---|---|---|
Tortured Memory of the Dying | Mobs and Skirmishes in zone one of the Southern Front |
|
Sorrowful Memory of the Dying | Mobs and Skirmishes in zone two of the Southern Front |
|
Harrowing Memory of the Dying | Mobs and Skirmishes in zone three of the Southern Front |
