One of the big changes for Destiny 2’s new Season of the Chosen is the replacement of weekly vendor bounties. Instead, your quests tab has a new hub for new Seasonal Challenges. For the first ten weeks of each season, Bungie will be adding new weekly quests via this new system in an effort to make up for the lost XP and Bright Dust rewards. In this guide, we’ll be looking at the Destiny 2 Season 13, Week 3 challenges and offering some tips for fast completion.
How Do These New Challenges Work?
The new weekly challenges work about how you’d expect them to. Each week, Bungie will be adding more though there won’t be a specific number of challenges each time. You have until the end of the season to complete them, so no worries if you’re not keeping up with the progression as you go. In fact, waiting makes it a bit easier to complete the whole thing faster as you can earn progress across multiple challenges at once.
Completion Tips
For the fastest possible completion, we recommend completing the playlist requirements first.
- Head to Nessus and complete bounties with precision weapons like scout rifles, pulse rifles, and hand cannons.
- Play Gambit if you have other bounties to grind. Otherwise, play as you’d like, but don’t grind in the hope that you’ll get Taken enemies. You’ll complete this one eventually, so don’t go too hard.
- Play Iron Banner to the best of your ability. Try to get your Power Level to at least 1280 if not higher. It’ll be easier if you’re 1300.
- Play five strikes in the strikes playlist.
- If you haven’t already completed the quest to unlock Dead Man’s Tale, you should!
- Complete a run of Presage and then head back in, grabbing five collectibles. Look out for data pads and search the corridors carefully!
Contender’s Ascent III
Report to the War Table in the HELM and complete the Challenger’s Proving III quest.
- Complete Challenger’s Proving III
Rewards: XP, Empress Lore Chapter, Medium War Table Reputation
This week we need to complete Battlegrounds: Oracle on Nessus, earn 42 Cabal Gold, use that gold to socket a Challenger Medallion, complete another Battlegrounds run, and smash open a chest. Starting to sound familiar? After your done, go visit Osiris in the Tower and complete this week’s task.
Golden Reaper
Acquire 300 Cabal Gold by playing strikes, Gambit, Crucible, public events, and more.
Rewards: XP, Medium War Table Reputation
As per our guide, Cabal Gold is earned by completing various activities. We recommend completing Heroic Public Events if you’re specifically grinding for this challenge. Completing one with the Heroic modifier will reward eight Cabal Gold. Given how fast these can be completed, you can easily earn quite a bit in just under 30 minutes.
Otherwise, you’ll likely earn a big chunk of the 300 Cabal Gold simply by completing the other challenges here. At least it’s retroactive so any progress you’ve earned so far has already counted.
Crash and Converge
Smash 15 Tribute Chests and focus 15 Season of the Chosen Engrams using charges from the Hammer of Proving.
Rewards: XP, Medium War Table Reputation
This one’s simple. Play Battlegrounds and open chests at the end. Focus those Season of the Chosen engrams as you can. Make sure they’re for Season of the Chosen weapons and engrams though, worldly engrams won’t count. For easier progress in the future, unlock upgrades for your hammer which give you more umbral engrams.
<Classified> Captain’s Log
Leave no stone unturned aboard the Glykon. Find five collectibles aboard the Glykon.
Rewards: XP
You may have found some collectibles on your way through the Presage mission but were unable to interact with them. Turns out you need to beat it once each week before you can get the collectibles. It sucks, but that seems to be the case. So after you get your weekly Dead Man’s Tale, head back in and look for those collectibles. Between data pads, chalices, projections of Calus, and more, there’s a ton to collect.
Failsafe Forward
On Nessus, earn ten progress by completing bounties, patrols, public events, and Lost Sectors.
Rewards: XP, Bright Dust
Make sure you pick up your bounties and then do what you’d normally do on Nessus. The next challenge asks you to get kills via Precision final blows so make sure to use weapons that are good at that.
Algorithmic Precision
Calibrate weapons with 100 precision final blows on Nessus.
Rewards: XP, Bright Dust
We recommend using hand cannons, scout rifles, pulse rifles, sniper rifles, and machine guns for this challenge. Aim for the head! (Or the milk box)
Challenger’s Apogee
Reach Power Level 1300 by earning powerful rewards and Prime Engrams.
Rewards: XP, Bright Dust
If you’re not already here, keep at your Power Level climb. You’ll get there eventually with effort. Make sure to complete as many weekly challenges and activities which drop powerful/prime engrams.
Primeval Entourage
Defeat 100 Taken in Gambit. Earn bonus progress for defeating tougher combatants.
Rewards: Double XP, Bright Dust
This one kind of sucks because you have to hope that the Drifter’s coin rolls in your favor. Keep playing until you get Taken and then try to rack up as many kills as possible. One game probably won’t be enough so you might not want to prioritize this one right away. Who knows how many matches it’ll actually take if it’s the only challenge you’re chasing.
Iron Sharpens Iron
Complete Iron Banner matches. Earn bonus progress for wins.
Rewards: Double XP, Bright Dust
If you were going to pass on Iron Banner, Bungie has other plans. You don’t need to win or get kills, but you do need to complete about about seven matches though wins will make the process faster.
Challenge Our Foes
Complete five playlist strikes.
Rewards: XP, Bright Dust
The past few weeks we’ve recommend you avoid the strike playlists and manually select strikes that have the appropriate enemy type. This time around it has flip-flopped. Enemy type doesn’t matter, just jump into the strike playlist!
