Avast Guardians, Season of Plunder is here! This space pirate-themed Destiny 2 season is all about crossing blades with Fallen House of Salvation, hunting for buried treasure, and working with everyone’s favorite scoundrel, the Drifter. Of course, there is a bunch of new loot to chase after including a whole suite of weapons that you can farm and craft. Of course, you’ll need to grind for the seasonal currencies, which are Treasure Coordinates and Map Fragments. While the former will take a bit of extra work, the latter is remarkably easy to earn — if a bit time-consuming. Here’s how to earn Map Fragments in Destiny 2:
How to Earn Map Fragments
Currently, the only way to earn Map Fragments in Destiny 2 is by completing the Ketchcrash activity. You will unlock this activity throughout the new weekly story quest, which will introduce the basic reward loop this season. After finishing the quest you can start grinding for Map Fragments on your own. Just load up Ketchcrash and complete the activity to earn 10 Map Fragments once you slay the final boss and open the chest. Do not leave after the chest is open, as the rewards seem to be delayed and don’t appear until a few seconds after! If you go to orbit right after opening the chest you’ll miss out on your Map Fragments! Additionally, you can earn more Map Fragments per Ketchcrash by reaching levels 12, 32, and 52 in the Season Pass.
For the unfamiliar, Ketchcrash is the main 6-man activity this season. Broken up across several encounters, players will need to defend and invade an enemy Ketch to kill the Captain at the helm. This is done by firing cannons, disrupting the security Servitors, destroying two Spider-Tanks, and slaying the final boss. It’s set at Power level 1520 and takes around 10-15 minutes to finish depending on your fireteam’s skill level.
Along with Map Fragments, you will also need Treasure Coordinates which are obtained by completing various activities. I recommend grinding Heroic Public Events as they give out the most Treasure Coordinates for the least amount of time invested. Alternatively, you can just earn them by finishing other activities like Crucible matches or even killing enemies if you unlock the Hire Halsiks the Sniper upgrade in the H.E.L.M.
Once you have enough of both, open up your quest tab and then your Captain’s Atlas. You can now create a Treasure Map which can be used to uncover buried treasure in the Expedition activity. Congratulations, you now understand the reward loop during the Season of Plunder!
