Avast Guardians, Season of Plunder is here! This space pirate-themed Destiny 2 season is all about crossing blades with Fallen House of Salvation, hunting for buried treasure, and working with everyone’s favorite scoundrel, the Drifter. Of course, there is a bunch of new loot to chase after including a whole suite of weapons that you can farm and craft. Of course, you’ll need to grind for the seasonal currencies so you can spend them on different Destiny 2 treasure maps in your Captain’s Atlas. Here’s how to earn these maps so you can narrow down what your rewards are during an Expedition:
How to Unlock Treasure Maps for the Captain’s Atlas
The main way you will unlock treasure maps in Destiny 2 is via upgrading your Star Chart in the H.E.L.M. This is done by earning Repute, which is a reward tied to some of the weekly challenges. Historically, you can usually only earn two of these upgrade materials a week, so you’ll want to spend them wisely. That being said, what upgrades you can unlock is directly tied to how many upgrades you’ve already dumped into your Star Chart. So if you want the Weapon Focused Map, you’ll need to have unlocked three upgrades in the Star Chart already.
Because of this, you won’t be unlocking a bunch of treasure maps right away. This is a slower process, but if you want to obtain them all I suggest obtaining the upgrades in the middle row of the Star Chart. Additionally, you can earn one extra treasure map by simply reaching Rank 4 reputation this season. Doing so will unlock the Glimmer Treasure Map in the H.E.L.M. Keep in mind, that the amount of materials needed for each treasure map in Destiny 2 varies. You can see how many Map Fragments and Treasure Coordinates you’ll need by examining the map in your Captain’s Atlas.
Once you’ve locked in which treasure map you want, load up the Expedition activity and complete it. Once you reach the very end you’ll be presented with three mounds of buried treasure. Players can then pick one of those three mounds to earn a random reward tied to whatever treasure map they used. Even though this reward loop isn’t terrific right now, once you can pick better treasure maps the quality of loot should improve.
