No Man's Sky Rocketman Guide - Easy 30 Seconds Airborne

AKA How to Fly

No Man’s Sky is a huge sandbox. You can basically do anything you want. Go explore the cosmos, settle all kinds of planets, invest money into creating mineral extractors, become a farmer, the number of things to do never seems to stop growing. If you’re anything like me, this actually starts to be a problem. I’ve started No Man’s Sky over more times than I have save slots. The early part of the game has clear objectives and goals. You always know what to do next. While I have a list of things I’d like to get to eventually like finally getting an S-Class freighter, unlocking all Nanite research, and getting every Quicksilver cosmetic, those are all user driver goals.

With today’s update, Hello Games has added an all-new game mode to No Man’s Sky: Expeditions. These are essentially seasons akin to Diablo, Path of Exile, or other games of that ilk. You start off with nothing, have a bunch of stuff the game wants you to accomplish and earn rewards along the way. At the end of the season your save file converts to a normal save and a new expedition starts with new goals, new locations, and you get to do it all over again.

In this guide, we’ll be telling you how to quickly complete the Rocketman Milestone in Phase Two of the Pioneers Expedition. The ask? Spend 30 seconds airborne without touching the ground.

No Man’s Sky 30 Seconds Airborne Milestone

The good thing about the Pioneers Expedition is everyone starts in the same solar system. This means it’s actually possible to share tips and locations with each other.

Once you spawn on Sissica, go through the usual routine of finding your ship, repairing it, and getting airborne. What you do after that point is entirely up to you. Before you leave the system, however, I recommend going for the Rocketman milestone since you don’t need to complete previous phases to gain access to the associated milestones.

After you’ve had a chance to check out the space station, head on over to the planet Ibata 17/T1. It’s a toxic planet with poison flurries as weather. Oh, goody. I came here for the copper, but once you arrive you should see why we’re here. Ibata is home to some humongous mountains. Do a quick search for one of the peaks that has a steep enough drop off so you don’t slam into the side of the incline and land there.

Check around and see what the ideal jumping point is and then do the usual run, melee, and jump trick to get more horizontal distance than you’d otherwise be able to.

Using this trick I was able to complete this milestone within an hour of starting my expedition run. You can always just build up high enough to fall for that long, but it’s much easier to visit a planet if there’s one nearby. Thankfully, Hello Games has gone easy on us and started us in the perfect system to do so.
