No Man's Sky Minotaur AI Pilot Guide - How to Unlock

Ready for Titanfall. Minotaur fall? Whatever.

One of the big features of the latest No Man’s Sky update, Sentinel, is the ability to have your very own Minotaur powered by an AI — think Titanfall but in space. A robot that can not only help fight foes, but also gather resources, and let you hop inside to take over during an emergency. But how do you unlock this new technology and install it on your Minotaur? In this guide, we’ll get you set up with the Minotaur AI Pilot technology so your trusty new friend will be helping you along before you know it.

How to Unlock Minotaur AI Pilot Technology

If you haven’t been playing No Man’s Sky for long, or have started a new save file, you first need to unlock access to the Space Anomaly. This occurs fairly early in any given save (shortly after you leave your first planet). From then on, you can summon the anomaly in space from teh quick menu.

Once inside, you need to talk to the Exocraft Upgrades vendor, Iteration: Perses. They’re at the back of the building. Make your way over to the Minotaur AI Pilot technology on the right when you do. The blueprint will set you back 480 Nanite Clusters so, hopefully, you’ve stocked up. If you don’t have enough, we recommend doing missions on either a Space Station or the anomaly. Not all missions reward Nanites, but the ones that do usually give a good amount. If you’re resource-rich, you can also refine Platinum, Pugneum, or any of the biological sludge types (e.g. Living Slime) into Nanites. You can also refine a combination of Silver, Gold, and Platinum into Nanite Clusters.

After that, you need to go to your base (assuming you have one) and summon the Minotaur. This allows you to install the new tech. If you don’t have the Minotaur research unlocked, you first need to get 10 Salvaged Data Modules and speak to the base-building expert. There you can purchase the Minotaur Geobay, which can then be built in your base, letting you summon the mech for yourself. That’ll set you back five Metal Plating, four Ion Batteries, and 100 Gold — an amount that shouldn’t be a problem if you’ve played for more than a few hours.

Assuming all of that is good, you just need one Quantum Computer, one Antimatter, and one Wiring Loom. After summoning your mech, you’re good to go. Open up the menus, install the blueprint, assign the materials, and you’ll have successfully unlocked this new feature.

Once you’ve done so, the Minotaur will follow you around and assist you with both combat and mining. Remember that any upgrades to the Minotaur will also have an effect on the mech when you aren’t inside it as well. Speaking of, you can, of course, hop inside at any point and take direct control. It’s likely that the AI is far better at combat than something like mining. This is useful when hunting Sentinels to farm items like the Walker Brain. Especially when it’s more efficient to use the smallest beam size and take your time.

But who knows? Maybe the darn thing will be a boon to your mining output as well! Best of luck either way with your new Minotaur AI pilot.
