Preview of New FFXIV Patch 6.2 Gear: Abyssos Raid, Crafted, and Tomestone Sets

Yoshida gives players a look at the new gear for Patch 6.2.

Update: The FFXIV team has added new official screenshots of the Crafted and Tomestone gear to the special site. Those images have been added below!

While glamour is the true endgame, sometimes one acquires gear in a new patch for other reasons. Staying in line with current content, or preparing for the latest Savage raids or Unreal Trial requires the best gear. In Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming Patch 6.2, this will include gear from the latest raid wing, Pandaemonium Abyssos, crafted items, and gear that players can purchase with the new Allagan Tomestones of Causality.

Today, during the 72nd Live Letter from the Producer, FFXIV creative director and lead producer Naoki Yoshida gave us a brief look at the latest in the game. As always, the gear was shown via printouts that Yoshida held up to the stream camera; it’s not the best method available, but we work with what we got.

Patch 6.2 Crafted Gear

As always, with every new raid tier comes a set of crafted gear, allowing players to get a leg up on the gearing process by turning to their favorite Disciples of the Hand. The current set for the last raid tier is the Classical Armor, which can be upgraded to the Augmented Classical set. We don’t have a name for new crafted armor set, but it has a distinct Italian Renaissance feel to it.

The next set of gear is the new Tomestone gear set, which you’ll be able to purchase using the Allagan Tomestones of Causality. These new Tomestones will drop from the raid and wherever you complete the higher-level options of your Duty Finder dailies. This gear looks to be a mix of the flowing Limbo set from Pandaemonium Asphodelos and the Middle Eastern flair of Thavnair.

Patch 6.2 Pandaemonium Abyssos Raid Gear

Finally, there’s the new set of raid gear. If I’m being honest, this set looks like it should be Savage or Ultimate-level gear, despite that, this is seemingly just the normal raid gear that drops from Pandaemonium Abyssos. The entire set is done in edgy black, but the highlight is the intense glowing effect on the weapons and armor.

The FFXIV team released an official image of the raid set and honestly, every single piece looks immaculate. This is probably the best raid gear I’ve seen in a long time. The weapons, of course, will be Savage only, and the Savage set will likely be dyeable.

Speaking of the Savage gear, the exchange rate for the Abyssos Mythos books will be lowered slightly. Instead of the head, hands, and feet pieces costing 6 Abyssos Mythos II books, they’ll cost you 4 books. This is only for Abyssos, as the change doesn’t affect Asphodelos Mythos II books for the previous raid tier.

Patch 6.2 is a gonna be a big one with lots of new additions. You can check out any of our previous coverage of FFXIV Patch 6.2 or our Live Letter live thread on Twitter. We also have deep dive previews into new features, like the Island Sanctuary!
