With the story of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker done, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn have turned their attention to their own projects. They’re still a team, but with the major threat defeated, there’s no need to have all hands on deck. With Patch 6.1, the Warrior of Light heads out on a new journey. The new patch is even called “Newfound Adventure.”
With a new adventure comes new faces, of course. Over the course of expansions and patches, the Warrior of Light is always meeting new characters like Nidhana in Endwalker’s main quest or even someone like Bajsaljen in the Bozja side content. Given that Patch 6.1 begins a new story following the end of the Hydaelyn-Zodiark saga, it stands to reason that new characters will rise to meet us.
In an interview with Game Watch (translated via Audrey “Aitaikomochi” Lamsam), FFXIV creative director and lead producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed we’ll be seeing new faces, but fans shouldn’t worry about Alphinaud, Alisaie, and the rest fading away.
“New characters will make an appearance, but it’s kind of hard for me to answer that,” he explained. “What I can say is that we’re not just adding new characters for the sake of a new story. It’s not right to think that just because we’re creating a new story, that all the things the Warrior of Light has built up until now will be gone. We can’t just cut the bonds we made with our friends during our journey.”
He also backed up this idea in another interview with Famitsu (also translated by Aitaikimochi). “In order to further expand on the relationships of those characters, we want to create the concept of ‘Together, you will all take a new step forward.’ The story will not change drastically from here on out. Your journey that you have made up until now will not reset, so don’t worry about that,” he added.
In the Game Watch interview, Yoshida also teased that the story of Patch 6.1 was going to end on a bit of a cliffhanger. “There will be a part in 6.1 that will have you question, ‘wait, what?’ with a cliffhanger. That’s all I can say for now.”
While we wait for the next patch, there’s the Moogle Treasure Trove event going on right now. And you may want to consider gearing up for new content with our FFXIV endgame gear guide. Square Enix has also detailed the new housing lottery system for those that want to live in binocular distance of Aymeric. We don’t judge.
