The floor is ACTUALLY LAVA in Klei's newest game

Ah, “the floor is lava,” that most sacred of childhood games. As a reliable cure for boredom while your parents are mattress shopping, there really was no better — and now it’s getting the ultimate ramping up in Hot Lava, the newest game from Mark of the Ninja, Don’t Starve, and Invisible, Inc. studio Klei Entertainment.

Hot Lava is Klei’s first fully 3D, first-person game, and you could easily compare it to parkour/free running game Mirror’s Edge. Just with, well, more lava. Although things start in pretty mundane environments — the family living room, a gymnasium — they seem to escalate in a hurry, with players traversing an active volcano. As visible in the trailer above, our player characters all seem to be based on 1980s children’s toys with exposed arm and leg joints, thus downplaying the HORRIBLE BURNING DEATH which I’m sure the player will experience frequently.

While Hot Lava does not yet have a release date, it has a page up on Steam and you can sign up for the beta on the game’s website.
