Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a collection of three of the Nintendo mascot’s best games. Spread across several console generations, players will be able to enjoy Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Each of these titles is considered by many to be some of the best Mario games in the plumber’s entire catalog, with Super Mario Sunshine getting its first re-release since it launched in 2002.
Given the sheer age of these games, there will be quite a few people who have never experienced racing a fat penguin down an ice slide or flying through the universe as Mario. Because of this, it’s easy to miss some of the more obtuse Stars in Super Mario 64 such as the one in Blast Away the Wall.
Here’s how to obtain this tricky star:
Blast Away the Wall Star
The sixth mission in Whomp’s Fortress, for this Star players will need to launch Mario at a piece of a wall. Of course, Nintendo couldn’t be asked to explain anything beyond that which can leave quite a few players stump[ed. Thankfully, this is quite easy and a much less infuriating cannon shot that requires very little accuracy. When you spawn, make your way through the level until you reach the top of the staircase that’s guarded by two enemies. Instead of running by the Piranha Plant, head down the ramp until you see the Pink Bob-omb by the cannon plate.
If the plate isn’t open, talk to the Pink Bob-omb to open it up – giving you access to the cannon. Now hop into the cannon and turn it right towards the direction you came from. Look to your left at the wall and raise the crosshairs until it’s aligned with the corner of the wall. Now fire Mario at the corner of the wall to destroy the wall and produce the Star. There are two walls you can break, so shatter the corner of the one that’s directly below the Red and Gold Coins. Once it’s broken, the Star will appear in the wall, so either fire Mario at it via the cannon or climb up to the rotating platform and drop down.

Remember, every time Mario is shot at the wall he will take damage. Make sure to refill your health by picking up the Gold Coins in the shallow water on the other side of the wall. Similar to other Stars, this one can be obtained at any time, but will officially be requested for you to complete in Mission 6. Just remember, there is some serious drop off when you fire Mario from the cannon. Always aim a little bit higher to ensure you actually hit the target and don’t just splatter against the wall! The last thing you want is to accidentally waste a life because you missed or hit the wrong part of the wall.
