Stray Midtown Safe Code - How to Open the Midtown Store Safe

How to get the code for the Midtown safe.

The best game of 2022 is finally here. Developed by BlueTwelve Studio, Stray lets players control a wayward cat that gets separated from its clowder and must explore a mysterious, desolate city. Boasting a mix of platforming, puzzles, and chase sequences, Stray is more than just wandering around as an adorable feline.

Along your journey, you will come across several collectibles and side quests you can complete. While you won’t earn any new abilities or stat boosts, these cosmetic items can make your cat even more adorable. One of these side quests is located in Midtown and involves opening up a safe in a small store.

While this might seem easy enough, the code you discover isn’t exactly correct, which can lead to a bit of confusion. You will also need to get the badge inside this safe if you want to earn the Badges trophy/achievement.

Here’s our guide on how to open the safe in Midtown.

How to Open the Midtown Safe

Before I get into all other details, for those who just want the code: it’s 8542.

Stray Midtown Safe

To find this safe, make your way through Midtown until you reach the main street. This will be where all the other shops are and can be accessed very early on in this chapter.

As you make your way through the street, look for a shop with a blue awning across from a small, white vehicle. There should be two robots talking, but you can ignore them unless you want to learn a bit more about Midtown.

Hop onto the counter and head inside the shop. Go to the back of the small store and look for a white poster on the back of the shelf. Have B-12 translate it to bring up a series of numbers and letters.

This might seem like an incoherent string, but it’s actually the code for the safe. The catch is the code is backward, so the actual safe number is 8542 instead of 2458.

Now that we have a code, look to the shelves along the back wall. You should see a couple that creates a makeshift staircase, allowing you to climb up onto the top shelf. Now just approach the safe and input the code.

Inside will be a cool glowing cat badge that’s automatically pinned to your feline’s B-12 vest. Even though this isn’t tied to any bigger side quest or story mission, you will need this badge for the Badges trophy/achievement.

Remember that these are simply cosmetic additions and will not impact gameplay at all, so don’t feel compelled to grab it if you want to just mainline the story.
