Ring of Elysium may have started out with an austere, wintry map, but that doesn’t mean it had to stay that way. The game has entered its second season, and players are now traversing the sunny, tropical area island of Europa. The change in weather and terrain is like night and day, so it’s understandable that some players are sorely missing Dione and all the exciting challenges it brought with it.
If you’re one of those players, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that it’s not gone for good. You can, in fact, play it every single day if you so choose. The bad news? It’s only available for a certain period of time each day, and if you don’t take advantage of it, you’re out of luck until the next day. So, it’s still there – but you have to be creative about how and when you access it.
It’s not immediately obvious how you can go back and spend time with Dione, however. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help you on your way.
What Happened to the Ring of Elysium Dione Map?
On Jan. 16, 2019, the official Ring of Elysium blog on Steam posted some early patch notes for a major update to Season 2. In the blog, the Ring of Elysium dev team posted the following message:
Map – Mt. Dione
The Mt. Dione map will be changed to a limited-time-only event mode after this update
Available every day at:4:00-6:00, 12:00-14:00, 20:00-22:00, Pacific Standard Time
12:00-14:00, 20:00-22:00, 4:00-6:00, Greenwich Mean Time
During the available time period, this event mode will only support Squads matchmaking
As you can imagine, this was a bit of a blow for players looking to jump in-game and kick things off with the Dione map. It’s no longer the default map, and you can’t just play it whenever you want. Unfortunately, the mode now only supports Squads, as well. If Solo was your jam, you’ll have to make do with playing with others.
The snowy Dione map was changed to a limited time event following that update. Now, it’s available during three periods each day: from 4 to 5 PM PST, 12 to 2 PM PST, and 8 to 10 PM PST. You’ll have to make sure you’re in-game in Ring of Elysium during these times if you really want to enjoy Dione again.
How to Play the Ring of Elysium Mt. Dione Map
If you want to get in some Squads on Mt. Dione, all you have to do is sign on during the aforementioned hours. Check the Play tab and select the “Squad” option. You should see Dione as an option. After you’re all squadded up, all you have to do from here is start playing! It’s as simple as that.
The game doesn’t make this immediately obvious, so it’s more like a pleasant surprise you may simply have stumbled on to in the past. Now you know when to expect the event sessions and how to access them. Hopefully, at some point in the future Dione will return as a permanent map selection or support something other than squads. But for now, this is the best solution if you’re interested in playing the O.G. Ring of Elysium map.
