The next horrifying installment of the Resident Evil series has finally arrived. Continuing the story of Ethan Winters following the events of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village sees our titular hero venture into a mysterious eastern European town to save his kidnapped baby. Throughout your journey, Ethan will encounter all sorts of horrific monsters, eccentric characters, puzzles, and familiar faces. Pulling inspiration from previous entries, Resident Evil Village mixes both horror and action. Probably one of the most disgusting enemies in the game is Moreau. One of the four lords, this fish-man will hound you throughout your time in the reservoir. However, once you drain the water you’ll finally get to face off against this horrific abomination and put him down for good.
How to Defeat Moreau
Moreau is undoubtedly the toughest enemy you’ll have faced so far. His attacks deal a lot of damage and despite his size, this fish is remarkably fast. Because of this, you’ll need to only stop running if you’re going to shoot or quickly grab some items. Additionally, explosives will be your best friend during this battle so stock up on mines and explosive rounds for your grenade launcher. Once you jump into the arena, keep walking around until Moreau attacks. Your goal is to hurt the fish enough to force the humanoid Moreau out from its mouth. This is the creature’s weak spot, allowing you to deal massive damage to this foe.
One of the best ways to do this is to hit the fish with either a mine, pipe bomb, or explosive round to force Moreau out of the mouth. Then switch to the sniper rifle and take a couple of shots at him before he retreats. You never want to stop moving, Moreau’s acid spit takes huge chunks of health away, so only attack when you are at a good distance. After you deal enough damage to Moreau he will retreat and climb onto a roof. When you see this happening, drop everything and run for any of the buildings or structures with a roof. Moreau will rain down acid which can quickly kill you. Hide under an awning or structure until the acid rain passes.
Unfortunately, this has the added effect of creating a bunch of slime walls you’ll need to destroy. Swap to your shotgun or pistol and run around, clearing all the walls before you go back to engaging Moreau. The fish will gain two new attacks that you’ll need to watch out for. The first involves it sliding around the arena on its belly at high speeds. If you aren’t careful, Moreau will ram into you and knock Ethan over. The fish can also inflate its stomach with acid and walk around the arena. It appears to take a lot more damage from regular bullets in this form, so use explosives. Remember, there are three Red Barrels scattered around the area, which you can ignite to really hurt Moreau.
When you hurt enough, Moreau will once again perform an acid rain attack so take cover and wait. This is a good time to heal, reload, and come up with a battle plan. Repeat the process of using explosives to damage Moreau’s fish enough to expose him so you can pepper him with bullets. I really don’t recommend the shotgun unless you absolutely need to. The sniper is far and away the best choice for hurting Moreau when he’s revealed. After dealing enough damage you will see a brief cutscene where Moreau explodes.
