Raft, the oceanic survival game, has reached version 1.0 — meaning many players are probably in search of items like Vine Goo. Raft players new and old might need a tutorial or a refresher after a long wait for the final release. The game has quickly gained popularity on Steam and Twitch, tasking players with constructing a boat that quickly becomes a floating fortress. All to help rediscover civilization and uncover the mysteries of the world.
Just like other titles in this genre, you build pretty much everything from simple floors and walls to advanced circuitry all on your own. And one of the key crafting materials you need for the endgame — just like rope, planks, and more — is Vine Goo. Used in crafting survival materials and, more crucially, circuit boards, this item is something you want to stock!
How to Make Vine Goo in Raft
In Raft, you can make Vine Goo by placing seaweed into the Smelter. After which you just need to wait 50 seconds for it to liquify. That’s it!
Seaweed is found throughout coral reefs surrounding the small islands you come across during your journey. When you dive into the water, look for large stalks of seaweed and pick the clumps floating in the middle. Once you have these, place them into your Smelter and wait until a dark green liquid appears. This is Vine Goo: which you can now add to your inventory and use in crafting. There’s also a small chance you’ll find Vine Goo on abandoned rafts or inside crates. However, this is unlikely and uncertain. You should never rely on this method to horde or consistently obtain Vine Goo.
To help yourself approach islands and get that precious seaweed, by the way, you should build a Paddle. This is a tool found under the sailing section of your basic crafting log. You start every game of Raft with the blueprint unlocked. You don’t need a blueprint or the Research Table! After which you can use the Paddle by standing at the edge of your raft and using it with the Left Mouse Button. Just like any other tool. This will pull you toward whichever direction you face, such as nearer to an island. Then use an anchor to keep your raft near the landmass in question so you can collect seaweed in peace.
The Best Things to Make with Vine Goo in Raft
Once you have Vine Goo, I also recommend crafting an Empty Bottle and some Circuit Boards first. The former allows you to store a lot of fresh water within a portable container. You need this for both survival and to water plants. The latter resource is then used in making the Receiver.
This item is critical. It will help you start the main story of Raft, as well as to locate key areas and islands for you to explore (and get even rarer resources). You need a fair amount of Vine Goo for all the components to make this device work, so start stocking up on seaweed every time you pass an island. You should also stock up on Copper (also found underwater near islands). This material is also heavily used in crafting throughout the game.
Once again, just like seaweed, you can find clumps of copper in the reefs around islands. Check the rocky areas for brown deposits. You can harvest them with your hook!
Of course, you also need a Smelter to make Vine Goo in the first place, which is a lengthy crafting process by itself. Most people get stuck on the Dry Bricks step of this construction. That’s because they’re not an item you can find or craft directly. Instead, make some Wet Bricks and leave them out on your raft for five real-world minutes. This causes them to dry and finally allows you to use them in crafting. You can find the clay and sand necessary to make Wet Bricks, you guessed it, underwater near islands. Harvest it using your hook just like copper!
I always recommend making 2-3 Smelters, too, since you can only break down one item at a time in each oven. Making multiple will cut down on your wait time, allowing you to quickly access whatever you need.
This is just your first major step into uncovering the endgame and new ,larger islands. You should only focus on crafting Raft Vine Goo once you have a consistent method to obtain food, water, and materials. Otherwise, this is a luxury and you are ready for the endgame.
