Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord Prisoners Guide: How to Sell & Convert Prisoners

One of the last things you do before ending the Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord tutorial is fight some bandits. After defeating them, or basically any other group of enemies, you can choose to take some of them as prisoners. But what do you do with them? How do you sell prisoners? Is it possible to just convince them to join your army? Our Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord Prisoners Guide will help you deal with them.

How to Sell Prisoners in Mount & Blade 2

Selling prisoners is relatively easy. You just need to make sure you take them to a large enough settlement. If you zoom all the way out you’ll see lots of cities, this is where you need to take them to. Once you do so, click on “Visit the Tavern District.” Here you’ll see an option to ransom your prisoners and how much money you can get for them.

Note: When you do go to sell them, do so one by one rather than bulk selling. Each prisoner ransomed increases your Roguery and Trader skill lines.

It’s worth noting that more valuable prisoners will ransom for a lot more. Regular bandits and their ilk will only net you five Denars. Named characters will obviously fetch a much higher price. You know, if that’s a thing that your clan likes to do. Either way, it’s still worth taking prisoners if only for some extra cash flow and potential renown.

How to Recruit Prisoners in Mount & Blade 2

Of course there’s the other option: letting the prisoners join your party. This option won’t be available right away. That is unless after defeating the enemy, they immediately opted to join you. But if they were listed as prisoners instead, it will take some time to break their will. At first they’ll just trudge along with you and your clan, but eventually you’ll have the option to go into the party tab and convert them over for free.

Just keep in mind that prisoners don’t count towards your party limit. So while you may be tempted to convert them into your armed forces, doing so will take up slots which could be filled by more experienced soldiers. You’re likely better off ransoming them for money at any major settlement. That said, they’re a good back up plan if you’re going to be on the road for a while and may lose a few soldiers here and there.

And that’s it for now! We’re still working our way through Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord. We’ll be sure to update this guide with any new information we find as we play. In addition, since this is an early access game, things are subject to change. We’ll do our best to keep the guide up to date, but can’t promise we’ll keep up with absolutely everything. If you have any tips or tricks to share with fellow players, do leave them in the comments below! If we agree they’re useful we’ll add them to the guide!
