Marvel's Avengers Online Guide - How to Play Online With Friends

So you want to form a team of Earth’s mightiest heroes? Marvel’s Avengers is the latest game from developer Crystal Dynamics and it allows players top step in the shoes of iconic characters like Iron Man, Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. Combining beat em’ up style gameplay with a loot system similar to Destiny 2 or The Division 2, Avengers is all about growing your own personal version of these superheroes. While you can play entirely by yourself, Marvel’s Avengers allows up to four players to cooperatively battle against the forces of AIM and other deadly villains. However, it will take a bit of time before you are able to play with an entire roster.

How to Invite Friends in Marvel’s Avengers

To unlock online co-op you will need to progress through the game until you unlock the War Table in the helicarrier. After you get the coordinates for the Snowy Tundra mission, you’ll be able to invite one more person to your party. To do this, open up your menu and select the Social tab to bring up the multiplayer menu. From here, you can hit the open space on your Strike Team to invite a friend into your game. Getting to this point takes roughly 3-4 hours depending on your skill level and what difficulty you’re playing on. Keep in mind, there are still some missions in Marvel’s Avengers you will not be able to play in co-op.

As for playing with a full squad, this will take more time since you’ll have to obtain a minimum of four different heroes. If you really want to play with all your friends, I recommend powering through the campaign until you hit this threshold. Alternatively, you can invite players into a game via just opening up the Steam, PSN, or Xbox Live menu and invite them through there. Just remember, you have to actually unlock the War Table to gain access since everything until then is very linear.

What is Marvel’s Avengers?

Marvel’s Avengers is a four-player co-op game that focuses on going through a series of missions to grow each character. Every hero has their own unique abilities, skill trees, and cosmetic items that you can equip. There is also a free battle pass for each of the Avengers, which is strictly tied to unlocking skins, calling cards, and other items that won’t directly impact the gameplay. Gear is on a power scale, meaning you will constantly find items that will increase your hero’s damage, health pool, and more. Similar to other looter shooters, there are different rarity tiers for items, which gives players something to hunt.

Keep in mind, at the time of writing this there is no PVP component of Avengers. We assume this is due to not only the PVE-focus of the game but the small hero pool available. Available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Marvel’s Avengers is currently live for those who own the Deluxe Edition of the game. Everyone else will need to wait until September 4th when the normal version of Crystal Dynamic’s action game launches. If you’ve been looking for a good loot driven title before Destiny 2: Beyond Light launches in November, consider picking up Marvel’s Avengers.
