How to Use Wildcards in Legends of Runeterra

It's all in the cards.

Out of every online collectible card game, Legends of Runeterra is perhaps the most free-to-play friendly. Just like MTG Arena before it, the game includes wildcards of varying rarities as a reward. These cards can be exchanged 1:1 for any other card of the same rarity in the game. But how do you use these wildcards? It’s not like they just automatically turn into a random card from your collection. In this guide, we walk you through the painless process of finding the right screen to turn these shiny tokens into useful cards for your collection.

How to Use Wildcards in Runeterra

There are a few different ways to use your wildcards. You can go to your Collection, click Cards, and manually find the ones you’re looking for. Right click it and a side bar will pop up on the left which will give you a bunch of options. The top one redeems for a wildcard assuming you have any. Your current wildcard count is displayed at the bottom of the sidebar.

If you don’t have any wildcards you can also purchase the card using Shards (the green ones) or craft it using Coins. This is also where you can upgrade the card to the Prismatic style for Prismatic Shards (the red ones) or Coins.

The easiest way to craft cards is as you need them. For example, you’ve imported a deck but you don’t own all of the cards. Go to Collection, Decks, click on the specific deck, and then click Edit Deck on the bottom right. This will bring you to the deck builder. Find the cards you want to craft on the deck list. It should be on the left hand side of your screen. Right click those cards and that same sidebar will pop up allowing you to craft the card you need. It’ll even display how many copies of that card you own. Just make sure not to craft more than you need! Wouldn’t want to waste those wildcards.

As a note, you should use wildcards as quickly as possible. Getting duplicates is your main way of accumulating a large number of Shards which you can then use to craft even more cards. This is especially helpful whenever a new expansion comes out. Because of how free-to-play friendly Legends of Runeterra is, it’s not impossible to own an entire set the day it releases if you have enough resources stored up.

How to Earn Wildcards

You can earn wildcards passively just by playing Legends of Runeterra, but you can also find them in Expedition rewards and in the weekly Vault rewards! The most consistent way to earn them, however, is through the various reward tracks for each region. These appear as individual wildcards and wild capsules. Keep in mind there’s always a chance for any card you earn to be upgraded into a wildcard instead! Any capsule has a five percent chance of upgrading to a wild capsule. A common, rare, or epic has a ten percent chance to instead become a wildcard of the same rarity while a champion card has only a five percent chance to upgrade. So get playing!
