After years of teasers and delays, the long-awaited Halo Infinite has finally been released. Set on the Zeta Halo, you once again assume the role of the Spartan, Master Chief. Rescued by a fellow UNSC soldier, Master Chief is tasked with dispatching a rogue faction of the Covenant called The Banished. Unlike other entries in the franchise, Halo Infinite mixes classic linear level design with a large open-world that players can explore.
Throughout Zeta Halo, you can liberate captured FOBs (Forward Operating Bases) from The Banished and make them your own outposts. These can be used to summon vehicles, weapons, or just recruit some helpful cannon fodder marines to your cause. However, to upgrade your FOBs you will need Valor, which acts as Halo Infinite’s version of experience.
How to Get Valor
You can get Valor in a number of different ways in Halo Infinite — almost all of which are tied to finishing side quests throughout the open world. Destroying Banished facilities (marked on your map with a purple triangle) will net you a hefty 100 Valor while saving UNSC Marine squads rewards 30 Valor. Additionally, completing story quests will also reward you with several hundred Valor and serve as the biggest source in the entire game. You can also earn a measly 10 Valor for destroying Banished Propaganda Towers.
That being said, completing assassination missions or any of the collectible side quests will not reward you with Valor. The former gives you a powerful named weapon, while the latter can give you everything from Spartan Cores to Audio Logs to multiplayer armor. You also cannot collect Valor from any chests or containers. This is solely something you earn by completing sidequests throughout Zeta Halo.
If you’re having trouble finding Banished facilities or UNSC squads, make sure to go liberate a few Banished-controlled FOBs. These are lightly guarded areas that usually only have a dozen or so enemies you’ll need to clear. Once you regain control of the FOB, a bunch of key locations and sidequests will appear on your map.
As you obtain more Valor, you will be able to summon UNSC weapons and vehicles at any FOB. The amount of Valor you’ve earned will determine what you have access to. For example, having 1,500 Valor lets you use the S7 Sniper Rifle, while the Wasp costs 2,600 Valor. You will not lose Valor when you summon an item at your FOB and the amount you earn is solely tied to what you have access to. You can see how much each UNSC item costs to unlock for your FOB by opening up the menu and selecting the FOB tag. Above each weapon name will be the amount of Valor needed to obtain this item.
You cannot gain access to any Banished vehicles; those need to be found out in the world. As for Banished weapons, you will unlock these by killing high-priority targets which are marked as a red triangle on your map. These are assassination missions, each of which is tied to a specific Banished weapon like the Duelist Energy Sword. Once you’ve acquired a Banished weapon via these missions, you can summon them at any time like the other UNSC firearms.
