Rejoice, zombie fans: Dying Light 2 is finally here. The follow-up to developer Techland’s 2015 Dying Light, this game once again merges the undead and parkour. Set in the fictional European city of Villedor, players assume the role of Aiden Caldwell, a member of an outcast group called the Pilgrims. Throughout your journey, you will encounter a number of different factions vying for control of the city. Your actions, including which faction you support, will shape how Villedor evolves throughout the campaign.
Given the sheer length of this game, there’s a lot you can run past or not even finish due to your stamina level. This can lead you to wonder if you can play after finishing the game’s campaign epilogue or if there’s a new game plus mode.
Does Dying Light 2 Have New Game Plus?
No. At the time of this article’s writing, players cannot restart the entire campaign while keeping their gear and progression.
That being said, there is a bit of a cheeky workaround if you have some friends. Since you can use any account to play co-op on, you can have a friend start a new game. Once they finish the prologue, join up with them. This will allow you to play through some of the much earlier sections of Dying Light 2 while retaining your finished character. Just remember that all the campaign progress will be saved to your co-op partner’s version of the game. If they decide to progress through the story without you, then you won’t be able to complete any quests they’ve completed.
However, since Techland has already announced long-term support for Dying Light 2, I wouldn’t be surprised if a New Game Plus mode is added down the road. But for now, you will be stuck either completing the content after the game ends or starting a new playthrough.
Can You Play After the Epilogue?
Yes! Despite what you may think when you are about to go into the building to chase down the bus, you can continue playing regardless of the ending you get.
The catch is that once you complete the epilogue, some story moments will be reverted for the sake of making some quests and activities finishable. Additionally, the campaign will be completely finished, so you won’t be able to replay the last mission or any additional main story levels without replaying the game.
Dying Light 2 will also become a bit more difficult, as enemies and quests will scale to your level. This means that everything you encounter will adapt to your current Player Rank. While this means you won’t be able to instantly obliterate lower-rank enemies, it also ensures you won’t ever find yourself outranked in a specific zone. All gear dropped and found will be scaled to your current level as well, which should help those wanting to complete earlier side quests without worrying about getting low-level loot. Given there are a ton of side quests and other activities to complete in Dying Light 2, I really recommend at least beating all the secondary missions.
