The Division 2 Chatterbox Guide - How to Get The Chatterbox Exotic SMG

No loot shooter is complete without a heaping helping of super powerful gear. In The Division 2, that means exotic weapons with unique perks and useful stats! Exotics can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes — from assault rifles to shotguns — but each has its own special place in The Division 2 endgame. And you definitely want to find them all to give yourself the most options possible. But where are they? How do you get exotics in The Division? Well, that’s what our guides are here to help answer. This time we’re going over how to get the Chatterbox exotic SMG in The Division 2.

Thanks to JiffyPaper of /r/TheDivision for the image.

Chatterbox Perks

The Chatterbox fires faster than just about every weapon out there. Every shot you land increases the rate of fire. Kills refill the magazine so you don’t run out of ammo. They also provide a buff that increases the magazine capacity, making you even less likely to empty the entire clip. In short, just keep firing and killing.

A lesser appreciated part of the gun is that is provides a buff while holstered!

  • Incessant Chatter: Every shot landed grants 1 percent rate of fire to a max of 60 percent. This resets on reload.
  • Box Magazine: Kills with this weapon refill 20 percent of its magazine and grant a buff for 10 seconds. While the buff is active, every shot landed increases magazine capacity by 1 to a max of 60. Killing a target consumes the buff to fully refill the increased magazine.
  • Blabbermouth: While holstered, reloading your weapon within 5 seconds after a kill grants 20 percent rate of fire for 10 seconds.

1. Farm Hyena Keys

To get the Chatterbox SMG, you need to first open a whole lot of Hyena Caches. Or at least you should plan on opening a whole lot. You need at least four Hyena Keys in order to get the four different Chatterbox parts. If you already have enough (perhaps after reading our faction key guide to The Division 2) you’re good to go!

If you don’t have enough keys, head into the sewers anywhere in Washington DC. Now farm away! You want to look for white boxes on the walls. Opening them will give you various faction keys. For the sake of this exotic, however, you only care about Hyena Keys.

Keep in mind that these wall chests reset every 24 hours. You can come back the next day, but the faction keys don’t respawn at a specific time. You literally have to wait 24 real-time hours to retrieve them from the same location. It’s not like Destiny where these things reset at the same time each day. If you open it at 1:00 PM, it’ll be available again at 1:01 PM the next day!

2. Get SMG: Loaded Canister

Step two of the Chatterbox search starts in the Downtown East area. The Loaded Canister SMG part will only drop from Hyena Caches in this area.

The map screenshot above, courtesy of Division2Map.com, shows all five faction key caches in that area. Note that the middle two are in the Grand Washington Hotel mission!

3. Get SMG: Creative Magazine

For the Creative Magazine part, you need to hike down the street to Federal Triangle. Again, this is the only area where the weapon piece can drop. Visit any of the four above caches, including one in the Jefferson Trade Center mission.

4. Get SMG: Modified Mods

One more trudge to Judiciary Square… Look for the Modified Mods the same way you found the other Chatterbox parts: by searching through key caches in this area.

After this you should have all of the Chatterbox pieces you need. We don’t have a map for this one, but there are two boxes along the western border with DZ East!

5. Get the Lost Chatterbox Blueprint

Now that you have all three Chatterbox Exotic SMG pieces, you need to replay the Bank Headquarters mission in Downtown West. You can use the above video if text isn’t enough.

While playing through the mission, and after you defeat Rebound, you’ll find yourself in an office room. There’s a hidden safe along the left wall near a back-lit desk. You won’t receive any indication that the safe exists — not until you’re right up next to the panel. So get close! Inside you’ll find an RFID Keycard that comes up later in the mission.

Keep playing the Bank Headquarters mission, just like you normally would, until you encounter the vault door. Just past the entrance, to the right, you’ll see a golden fenced door. Just to the right of that is an RFID Keycard reader. Here you can scan the card you found earlier. Just inside is a Hyena Cache… with a 100 percent drop rate for the Chatterbox Blueprint!

6. Craft the Chatterbox!

Now you have all the most important parts of the Chatterbox: the Loaded Canister, Creative Magazine, Modified Mods, and the blueprint itself. But you also need 30 Polycarbonate (Green), 22 Titanium (Blue), and 69 Receiver Components (Gray).

Acquire all those resources, if you don’t have them already. Then take the whole pile to the Crafting Station at the White House. It’s finally time to whip you up your very own Chatterbox!

Thanks for taking the time to read our guide on how to find the Chatterbox in The Division 2. We hope it helps you on your wild journey through what’s left of Washington D.C. And be sure to check back at Fanbyte for more information on exotics, weapons, gear, and guides to The Division 2.
