After tons of delays, Cyberpunk 2077’s dystopian world has finally arrived. In this RPG, players assume the role of V as they make their way through the neon-drenched streets of Night City. Boasting a massive open-world, unique character customization options, and a whole range of ways to approach scenarios, almost every playthrough will be different. You will come across a lot of gear as forge a path through Night City, each of which has a numerical value associated with it. This can be higher damage or higher defense depending on what the item is, along with various passive bonuses such as launching flaming projectiles. Thankfully, Cyberpunk 2077 allows you to bring your favorite items with you as progress through the game via the upgrade system.

How to Upgrade Gear
To upgrade your gear, open up your menu and go over to the “Crafting” tab on the far left side. Select this to bring up the Crafting menu and then select the “Upgrade” tab on the right. This will bring up a separate menu where you can select what piece of gear your want to improve. Once you pick what item you want you will see a bunch of stats and information appear on the right side. In the first column, you’ll see your current piece of gear’s damage/defense numbers, along with its current market price, what brand of weapon it is, and if it has any special attributes. The far-right column displays the improved stats once you actually upgrade it.
In order to upgrade a piece of gear, you will need the required amount of crafting materials. These can be found in a column just to the left of your existing weapon/armor piece’s stats. There are different rarities to each crafting item and every piece of gear will require a different assortment. The rarity of the materials needed is determined by the rarity of the gear. So if you are trying to upgrade a Rare weapon you’ll need Uncommon, Common, and Rare materials. Inversely, if you’re upgrading an Epic item, you’ll need Uncommon, Common, Rare, and Epic crafting materials.

You can upgrade a piece of gear so long as you have the required crafting items. You can get crafting materials a number of different ways from finding them in the world to purchasing specific ones at vendors to obtaining them when you disassemble gear. The latter is the best method, especially if you are investing in the Technical Ability attribute which focuses on crafting. This allows you to gain additional or even rarer materials when disassembling anything. Given you’ll come across a lot of weapons, junk, and ammo lying around the world of Cyberpunk 2077, disassembling for materials is a great way to free up space. Remember, you don’t have to upgrade anything. However, if you’ve really clicked with a weapon then I recommend just improving it instead of trying to hunt down a better variant in the world.
