Don your cloak, break out your ceremonial knife, and get ready to sacrifice a heretic to an elder god because Cult of the Lamb is here. Developed by Massive Monster, this game is a mix of the base builder and rogue-lite genres. Players assume the role of a lamb who was rescued by a mysterious entity and instructed to build a following in its name. While you will spend a lot of time skulking through colorful dungeons, it’s important to build up your congregation. One way to do this is to recruit more followers in Cult of the Lamb. Here’s how to manipulate lovingly accept new believers into your cult:
How to Gain More Followers
Find Them in Dungeons
In Cult of the Lamb, you will need to grow your congregation as you progress through the game. Not only will these worshippers provide you with precious experience to increase your killing potency and building options. You can gain followers in several different ways, the first is by simply finding them when exploring one of the many dungeons. As you progress through a dungeon, you’ll often be asked to pick a specific route. You can tell which route has a follower because one of the nodes on the dungeon map will have an image of someone praying (shown above).
If there’s a coin or building next to this icon that means you’ll need to pay gold to save that follower. Alternatively, if it’s just the icon of someone praying you’ll need to rescue the survivor from enemy cultists. Once all enemies are defeated you can send them back to your grove. Finally, there’s a chance you’ll stumble across a character surrounded by dead bodies. If you absolve them of their sins, that person will become a follower and join the cult.
You can also get a new follower every time you defeat a boss for the first time. Once a boss is defeated they will transform back into a cute animal, which you can recruit into your congregation. Bosses will not turn into NPCs upon repeat playthroughs.
Complete Follower Quests
Another method is through quests given out by your current followers. These are a little rarer and typically come with some stipulations. For example, one of my cultists decided to give me a bunch of experience if I’d take in three sick followers. This isn’t ideal, but if you’re able to quarantine them for a couple of days you will be able to increase your numbers.
Purchase Them From Helob
The final method for obtaining followers is by purchasing them from Helob the spider merchant. Occasionally in dungeons you will stumble across Helob who is selling a follower for 50 gold coins. Obviously this is a pretty hefty price to pay — especially early on when money is tight. I only recommend doing this if you really need the extra follower count for opening the dungeon doors or to complete specific tasks. Otherwise, it’s best to just get more followers by going through the dungeon, recusing them, or defeating bosses.
Now that you know how to grow your congregation, you should have no trouble upgrading your character’s abilities and facilities. Just remember, cultists will age and eventually die so make sure to always be picking up new blood otherwise you’ll be managing a nursing home!
