Helldivers 2 Update Adds 2 Terrifying New Enemies and Increases Level Cap

Best of all, experience is reportedly being retroactively added.

Managed democracy received some important assistance today (April 2) as Helldivers 2’s latest patch was released. In the patch, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios gave the dedicated player base something further to reach for with an expanded level cap. But as per usual, they also snuck in something else: two new Automaton enemies. You can now expect to find flying Gunships and massive walking Factory Striders.

Increased Level Cap

The game launched with a level 50 level-cap which also unlocked the rank of Skull Admiral. Now that level cap has been raised all the way to level 150, and ten new ranks with it. Additionally, it's reported that experience is being added retroactively. So players who've been earning experience and stuck at level 50 will find themselves appropriately ranked up. The update will definitely be welcomed by dedicated players, some of which hit that level 50 rank in just a few days after launch. Now if only there was something to buy with all that capped out Requisition and Common Samples…

New Planetary Hazards

Other major changes include the addition of new planetary hazards including blizzards and sandstorms. These will likely not be as deadly or frustrating as ion storms or meteorite showers, the lack of visibility could cause players to find themselves wandering into Terminid or Automaton patrols just that little bit more often.

Balance-wise, the ever-frustrating “Retrieve Essential Personnel” missions have been made slightly easier with improved enemy spawn points and lowered amounts of civilians needing saving. And the more recently added “Destroy Command Bunkers” missions now actually provide a challenge.

In terms of weapon balance there’s a laundry list of tweaks and changes that can be seen on the full patch notes, but the short version is: Arc Thrower tweaked, Dominator buffed, Slugger nerfed. There’s also changes that might make some less popular weapons such as the Diligence Counter Sniper and Liberator Penetrator more viable options.

Overall, with rumors of an incoming assault on Cyberstan by the Automatons, and the ever-looming threat of an Illuminate incursion, any bit of assistance is good for Super Earth’s finest. Plus, it’s fitting Helldivers can now earn their ranks all the way up to Skull Admiral. And rest assured with more Major Orders coming this week, Helldivers will get a chance to earn those promotions.
