Sea of Thieves is getting its biggest and most exciting update yet. Tied in with Season 3, the new “A Pirate’s Life” update will see this swashbuckling world cross swords with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. Not only will this season revolve around a brand new storyline, but it will introduce a host of changes to the game’s world. Along with new story content, players can complete challenges tied to the new Tall Tales. Finishing all of these will unlock new cosmetics for your pirate, so it’s definitely worth beating as many as possible. One of these is the Tale of Eternal Sorrow and requires you to hunt for the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow.
How to Complete the Tale of Eternal Sorrow Commendation
Silver Key Location
To obtain the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow you will first need the Silver Key. You can obtain this once you reach the large room with the pully puzzle that requires you to raise the water level to reach the highest floor. After you’ve raised the water, climb up the ladder, and use the pully to lower the suspended bridge. Quickly cross it and head left down the red tunnel. At the very end, you will find the Silver Key sitting on a small podium. Pick this up and continue to the next room where the massive suspended ship is.
Chest of Everlasting Sorrow Location
With the key in hand, make your way down the right tunnel to the next room. You will emerge into a massive room with a ship suspended by some chains. Climb up the ship and approach the captain’s quarters’ door. Use the key to unlock it, allowing you to grab the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow. Don’t worry about it right now, as you’ll have a pretty lengthy boss battle with the Kraken first. Just make sure to grab the chest after you’ve completed this boss fight, otherwise, you won’t be able to unlock the Tale of Eternal Sorrow commendation.

Tale of Eternal Sorrow
After you defeat the Kraken, grab the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow and head up the ladder. Follow the path until you reach an underwater tunnel and keep swimming till you arrive at another magic barrier. Shoot the coral to open the barrier and hop across the stone pillars to the other side of the room. Set the chest down in front of the large door with the red coral on it to cause the statue above to cry. This will slowly open the door, gaining you access to a hidden room within. Now all you have to do is read the five inscriptions carved into the stone wall. Doing so will complete the Tale of Eternal Sorrow and shed some light on the Siren King.
When you are leaving, make sure to bring the chest with you! Once you complete the Tall Tale it can be sold to the Gold Hoarder for a little over 6,000 gold. Just make sure to keep bailing out the water it floods your ship with.
