Destiny 2 Tarnation Deepsight Guide - How to Unlock the Tarnation Pattern

Savathun is finally here, which means Destiny 2’s highly anticipated expansion has been released. The Witch Queen has players finally confront one of the franchise’s most popular villains in her own throne world. Not only is this DLC introducing a new story, but there are also a ton of new weapons, armor, exotics, consumables, and activities for players to participate in. The Witch Queen also marks the release of the Void 3.0 update, which drastically reworks the void subclass and new exotics to build around.

One new addition is weapon crafting, which allows players to customize every aspect of specific guns. One of these is the Tarnation Grenade Launcher, which can utilize some solid perks. Unfortunately, unlocking this weapon pattern is a bit of a slog. Here’s what you need to know:

How to Get Tarnation Pattern

To unlock the Tarnation pattern, you need to earn and complete two Deepsight Resonance versions of this Grenade Launcher. For the unfamiliar, these are weapons that drop with a red border around them and a progress bar. For the Tarnation, you will need to finish two Deepsight Resonance variants to unlock it in the weapon crafter. That’s easier said than done, as the Deepsight variant of the Tarnation has a comically low drop rate and only comes from The Wellspring activity.

The Wellspring unlocks after you’ve completed The Witch Queen‘s campaign. It has two difficulty settings: Normal difficulty is set at 1510 Power and has matchmaking, while Master is a whopping 1580 and requires players to form their own fireteams. The Master difficulty is unlocked once you hit Rank 18 with Fynch on the Throne World.

After spending time in both Normal and Master difficulty, the drop rate for these weapons appears to be the same. While this could be a bug, right now it’s just more efficient to keep replaying the Normal difficulty and hope a Deepsight variant of the Tarnation drops at the end. Thankfully, Bungie community manager dmg04 posted on Twitter that they are looking into the drop rates for these weapons.

Destiny 2 Tarnation Pattern

There are four weapons tied to The Wellspring, and they rotate daily. You can check which one is in rotation by highlighting the activity in the Throne World destination screen and checking under the “Rewards” section of the description. Once you have two Deepsight variants of Tarnation, I recommend completing them either in the Dares of Eternity activity or in the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid.

Upon unlocking the pattern, go to your “Triumphs” page and select Grenade Launcher. You then need to select the Tarnation to unlock the pattern, making it craftable. From here, return to the weapon crafter and make your Grenade Launcher. If you’re looking to quickly level it up, I recommend using it as you complete activities like Strikes, Crucible matches, etc. You get a nice chunk of progress for finishing most activities with a weapon that can level up when equipped.

With a little bit of patience (and a lot of luck!), you should unlock this weapon pattern without too much trouble.
