How to Cheese the Draconic Tree Sentinel Boss in Elden Ring

That Tarnished is poisoooooooon

Developer FromSoftware’s Elden Ring is finally available! Set in a gorgeously haunting setting, this dark fantasy blends together the backbreaking brutality the studio is known for with the open-world freedom of titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Players are free to explore dungeons, battle bosses, complete side quests, or just roam the countryside on their trusty steed.

In the unforgiving world of the Lands Between you sometimes need all the help you can get. While many players will opt to fight their foes on even grounds, others prefer to exploit the mechanics of the game to their advantage. This is called “cheesing,” which is essentially defeating a boss or strong enemy in a way that wasn’t intended. Perhaps one of the funniest and most useful cheeses is against the Draconic Tree Sentinel just outside of Leyndell, Royal Capital.

How to Cheese the Draconic Tree Sentinel

Elden Ring Poison Mist

1. Get the Poison Mist Incantation

Your first step is to get the Poison Mist incantation which can be found in the southern portion of the Weeping Peninsula. Go to the Castle Morne Rampart site of grace and then head south east to where I’ve marked above on the map. When you approach the forest you’ll see one of the Teardrop Scarabs rolling a ball around. Kill the Scarab to earn the Poison Mist. Keep in mind, this scarab will warp around the area so you may need to use range attacks or Torrent to catch up to it before it flees.

After you get this incantation, you will need a minimum of 12 faith to use this spell and an seal to cast this item. The quality of the seal really doesn’t matter, so go back to the Table of Lost Grace and speak to the Twin Maiden Husks. You can buy a Finger Seal, which will let you cast Poison Mist assuming you have a high enough faith stat.

2. Sneak Up Behind the Draconic Tree Sentinel

Now head to where the Draconic Tree Sentinel is and follow the path I have shown above. If you’re crouching, you should be able to sneak through the trees and brush until you’re right behind this boss. Do not sprint, walk, or attack this boss otherwise you will trigger the fight and this cheese will be impossible to do until you die. I also recommend having a bunch of your Flasks allocated to FP since this will take a bit of time and you don’t want to run out of mana halfway through cheesing this boss. Keep sneaking until you’re right behind the Tree Sentinel’s horse and then cast your Poison Mist.

Elden Ring

For whatever reason this won’t cause the boss to become hostile or even know where you are. Just stay crouched behind the boss and cast Poison Mist, as this will infect the Tree Sentinel and slowly drain its health. You only need to cast the mist once to inflict the ailment on the boss and slowly begin draining its health. Only when you see the boss’ health stop depleating should you recast this incantation to apply poison onto the Tree Sentinel once again. This will take a fair amount of time, since killing an enemy with poison alone is a very slow, tedious method. However, this will also ensure that you can kill the Draconic Tree Sentinel without ever needing to raise your sword or risk death. In fact, this method is especially good for those who are either underleveled.

Just stay behind the boss and keep using Poison Mist whenever the boss’ health stops taking damage and he will eventually fall to your power of stealth! If only some of the other bosses were this easy.
