Apex Legends Heirloom Guide - How to Get Caustic's Heirloom

The new Aftermarket event for Apex Legends has arrived, which means it’s time to hunt down a new heirloom. Of course, when I say hunt, I mean shell out a little over a hundred dollars until the game unlocks it for you. Painless, right? Similar to previous events in Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale game, players can collect cosmetic items until they unlock a character’s specific heirloom.

This unique melee weapon is tied to a specific character and typically reflects either that legend’s personality or some aspect of their past. For example, Bloodhound’s is their hunting axe, while Octane’s is a butterfly knife/Stim syringe combo. During the Aftermarket event, you can earn Caustic’s hammer heirloom, which is filled with his toxic Nox Gas.

How to Get Caustic’s Heirloom

Unfortunately, there are still only two ways to earn heirlooms in Apex Legends. The first is during the Aftermarket event, which requires you to purchase every cosmetic item in the event tab via the Aftermarket Event Packs. Each pack guarantees you only one cosmetic from the event, however, you will never receive a duplicate. This means you will need to purchase a total of 24 loot boxes to unlock Caustic’s Heirloom. You can only buy Event Packs in either groups of 10 for 7,000 Apex Coins or individually for 700 Apex Coins each.

Breaking down the numbers, you would need to purchase $160 USD in Apex Coins just to have enough to buy all of the Event Packs. This, of course, assumes you bought two sets of ten and then the last four by themselves for 700 Coins each. So unless you have a lot of money saved up, don’t expect to earn this item any time soon. Keep in mind, this cannot be earned any other way during the event. If you cannot afford all of these loot boxes then you’re going to have to go with the second option.

This method far more of a grind, but certainly possible if you haven’t earned an heirloom yet. After opening 500 Apex Packs you will earn 150 Heirloom Shards which can be spent unlocking one heirloom of your choice. There’s no way to track how many Apex Packs you’ve opened, so you’ll either need to keep count or just guess how close you are. After you earn your Heirloom Shards, you can purchase Caustic’s hammer after the Aftermarket event has concluded. Just go to the Store tab and select the Heirlooms tab in the middle to reveal all the heirlooms you can purchase with these shards. Again, Caustic’s heirloom will only appear once the event has concluded, so if you earn some during the event just save them.

Remember, heirlooms have no impact or advantages in the game itself. So if you cannot afford one don’t worry, as these are just extravagant cosmetic options. They do not affect the gameplay in any way outside of having a unique melee and idle animation. So unless you are a hardcore Apex Legends player, there’s really no reason to drop $160 USD for this item. It’s simply not worth that amount of money.
