After Genshin Impact, and technically Tears of Themis, HoYoverse is back with a new game that probably looks super familiar but plays slightly different from the gacha juggernaut. Honkai: Star Rail doesn’t look to be entirely open world, but it still comes with the same familiar character swapping, relic grinding, and chest opening.
One key difference, however, is its turn-based combat. Instead of having to focus on intricate moves and character swaps, in Star Rail you’re free to slow down and enjoy the terrific animations. In this guide, we take a look at March 7th, one of the main faces of Honkai: Star Rail.
If you’re a fan of Genshin, a lot of this will look familiar. Characters in Star Rail have elements and rarity; a basic attack, ability, and ultimate; and the equivalent of Constellations, called Eidolon here. That’s a lot, huh? No worries though — we’re going to explain everything as we go along! But first, here’s some quick info on March 7th’s lore and her voice actors. If you’re looking for her full splash art, that’s at the bottom of the post.

March 7th Story/Lore
- Element: Ice
- Rarity: 4-Stars
- Path: The Preservation
- Affiliation: The Astral Express
A spirited, quirky young girl who is into all the things girls her age should be interested in, such as taking photos. She was awakened from a piece of drifting eternal ice only to find out that she knows nothing about herself or her past. While initially in low spirits due to her lack of identity, she decided to name herself after the date she came into this new life. And thus, on that day, March 7th was born.

March 7th Abilities & Skills
This spread of ability types should look familiar for Genshin fans, but things are a bit different here. In Star Rail, your entire team starts with a certain number of Skill charges. Using a Skill expends one of these charges. Using a Basic Attack earns you a charge, up to a maximum of five.
You need to balance this, using Basic Attacks when that’s enough and Skills when it benefits you the most. Each character has their own separate Ultimate gauge, which is charged up by accumulating Energy. This is earned by damaging foes and supporting allies. The interesting note here is you can cast an Ultimate even when it’s not your turn. No need to wait until the entire cycle comes back around — simply interrupt the order and cast it then and there.
Before you read these, it’s time to explain what a Technique is. In short, you cast your Technique before battle to gain its effect the next time you encounter foes. In this case, March 7th will immediately attack and Freeze a single enemy when combat starts. Choosing one of the four at your disposal is an important part of strategizing!
Basic Attack – Frigid Cold Arrow
Deals Ice damage equal to 50% of March 7th’s ATK to a target enemy.
Skill: The Power Of Cuteness – Defense
Provides an ally with a Shield that can absorb damage equal to 54% of March 7th’s DEF plus 180 for three turns. If the ally’s HP is 30% or higher, it greatly increases the chance of enemies attacking that ally.
Ultimate: Glacial Cascade – AOE ATK
Deals Ice damage equal to 90/96% of March 7th’s ATK to all enemies. On hit, the enemy has a 50% base chance to be Frozen for one turn. While Frozen, the enemy cannot move and will take 30/32% of March 7th’s ATK as an Ice damage-over-time (DoT) at the start of each turn.
Passive Talent: Girl Power
After a shielded ally is attacked by an enemy, March 7th immediately launches a Counter against the attacker, dealing Ice damage equal to 50/55% of her ATK, which has a 20% base chance of Freezing the enemy for one turn. While Frozen, enemies cannot move and will take 30% of March 7th’s ATK as an Ice damage-over-time (DoT) at the start of each turn. This effect can be triggered two times each turn.
Technique: Freezing Beauty
Immediately attacks the enemy. After entering battle, there is a 100% base chance to Freeze a random enemy for one turn. While Frozen, the enemy cannot move and they will take 50% of March 7th’s ATK as Ice damage at the start of each turn.
March 7th Traces
Doesn’t look like anything we see in Genshin, right? It’s actually surprisingly similar. Each of those Level 1 nodes above is actually just the place where you upgrade each of your abilities. Just like in Genshin, this requires your character to be ascended.
The addition here is the smaller nodes, most of which provide basic buffs to the amount of Ice damage you do or how much DEF you have. A few, however, do upgrade your Technique. March 7th’s, for example, add another turn to her shield and cause her Skill to also remove one debuff when cast.

- DMG Boost Ice – Ice DMG increased by 3.2%.
March 7th Eidolon
Now we get to the part Genshin players are intimately familiar with: Constellations, er, Eidolon. These are abilities earned by using a currency that can only be found by summoning repeat copies of March 7th from Wishes. Again, you’ll need seven total copies of each character to reach their maximum strength.
- Memory of You: Increases the number of times the Talent’s Counter effect can be triggered each turn by one. When Counter is triggered, deals an additional 35% of March 7th’s DEF as Ice damage.
- Memory of It: Every time her Ultimate Freezes a target, March 7th regenerates 10 Energy.
- Memory of Everything: Increases Glacial Cascade Ultimate level by three up to a maximum of Level 15. Frigid Cold Arrow Basic Attack increased by one level up to a maximum of Level 10.
- Don’t Want to Lose: Upon entering battle, grants a shield equal to 50% of March 7th’s DEF plus 200 to the ally with the lowest HP percentage for three turns.
- Don’t Want to Forget: Increases The Power Of Cuteness – Defense Skill level by three up to a maximum of Level 15. Frigid Cold Arrow Basic Attack increased by one level up to a maximum of Level 10.
- Just Like This, Always…: Allies under the protection of the Shield granted by The Power Of Cuteness – Defense Skill will restore HP equal to 8% of their Max HP at the start of each round.
