If you’ve been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons long enough, you may already have upgraded Nook’s Cranny. If you have, the cabinets will contain better tools to purchase. These are usually labelled with the words outdoorsy or colorful. But are these tools just as good as the ones you can craft? How to Upgrade Nook’s Cranny
First things first, if you don’t have Nook’s Cranny upgraded, these tools aren’t available to you which is a shame, honestly. Crafting materials are infinitely more rare than bells are, so you’re always better off just purchasing a new tool once one breaks.
To get Nook’s Cranny to upgrade you need a few things:
- Play on 30 different days since creating your island.
- Buy OR sell 200,000 Bells of goods.
- This includes turnips.
- Have Mabel visit your island.
- Mabel will visit randomly after the Able Sisters shop is open.
How Good Are Purchased Tools?
They’re just as good as the ones you craft! The only difference is you won’t need to use up your valuable crafting materials to make them. Sticks might not be in limited supply, but unless you’re still hurting for cash, you may not be hitting all of the rocks on your island every day. And don’t even get us started on wood. Point being the 2,500 Belles are well worth the investment.
All of the available tools are the same functionally, they just differ visually. If you’re hunting for a specific one, just wait! They seem to rotate with every new shop day.
For example, in New Horizons there are three different options:
- Colorful Fishing Rod
- Fish Fishing Rod
- Outdoorsy Fishing Rod
All three will set you back 2,500 bells. They’re each purchased from an upgraded Nook’s Cranny and they all have a durability of 30.
