The final cutscene of Final Fantasy XIV’s 6.5 Main Story Quest unveiled a mysterious character seemingly searching for the Warrior of Light. Shown only from the waist down, there wasn’t much way to identify them. More mysterious than this (and more hilarious as well) when data miners and illicit tool-users zoomed out on the character, it was revealed that the mystery legs were just that - a pair of disembodied, mystery legs.
We’re just under two months out from the unveiling of the “mystery legs” and opinion is still out on just who, or what they belong to. The dominant theory is female Hrothgar, but with just a pair of legs, little fur, and no tail, it’s pretty hard to confirm that.

That’s where a recent post on the FFXIV subreddit comes in, comparing the legs to other races. In the post, u/Cinder_Fall has seemingly rendered the legs next to several default examples of FFXIV races. The comparisons include Hrothgar, Au Ra, Lalafell, and Miqo'te. According to this comparison, the legs’ size would put them on track to be a similar height as male Au Ra, one of the tallest races in the game, and bigger than Male Hrothgar.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the most scientific of tests. There’s no comparison to all the races, and especially one that might conceivably be the closest, the female Roegadyn. Fans also want to see the legs in motion, or at least from more than one angle.
There’s also the fact that not every NPC in FFXIV uses their race’s body template. For example, many Garlean NPCs, including Nero tol Scaeva, use the Elzen body model with a Hyur head. And Aymeric de Borel famously uses the Au Ra male head and body, with Elzen ears attached to give him his trademark height and unique appearance.
As a result, while we’re closer to confirming just who the “mystery legs” don’t belong to, we’re no closer to figuring out who they do belong to. Unfortunately, that may have to wait for either 6.5 part 2 in early 2024, or later.
