Official FFXIV PVP Win Rates by Job Revealed, and New PVP Details

While casting competitive PVP on a livestream, Yoshida shared overall win rates for each region and confirmed additional details.

Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida was just hanging out with his boy community manager Toshio Murouchi, livestreaming and commentating over some Crystalline Conflict matches the other day. It was a Japanese-only stream you could watch on the official FFXIV Twitch channel. But thanks to the translators from the FFXIV Reddit’s Discord channel, we were able to get some new FFXIV PVP details Yoshida shared on stream.

For those in the FFXIV PVP trenches, we know there are just some Jobs that tend to cause problems when we face them in matches. We even did a PVP Jobs tier list around the time Patch 6.1 and Crystalline Conflict went live. But I think the you’d be surprised by the win rate stats Yoshi-P shared; after all, numbers don’t lie.

Keep in mind that these numbers do not signify pick rate, and instead represent each Job’s win rate for Season 2 of FFXIV PVP. (And if you’re wondering, there are no official numbers to share on Job usage in PVE.)

Below are screenshots of the numbers from the stream, which were all labeled in Japanese. But below that, we have translations for all the Jobs listed in the images.

The following is a table with the win rate statistics for all Jobs overall and across each region from Season 2 of FFXIV PVP.

Quick Observations

When looking at the win rate stats, it seems healers are a pretty important component for winning in PVP. Scholar, Astrologian, and Sage all have win percentages well over 50% overall and across all regions. Considering that White Mage was considered S-tier and the go-to healer in PVP, it’s surprising how its prominence has dropped in Season 2, falling well below 50% in all cases.

For tanks, Warrior isn’t what it used to be. It was once a staple of any winning team but it seems the survivability and utility of Paladin and Dark Knight matter more for PVP success. Gunbreaker sits below 50% in all cases; it’s still quite unwieldy to play effectively, although it’s been buffed over the past few patches.

Surprises continue with Reaper being the winningest melee DPS Job. It was considered a low-tier pick in PVP, but along with some buffs and a high skill-ceiling, good Reapers have been racking up Ws in Season 2. The same can be said about Monk. A decent Red Mage has had the potential to influence the outcome of tight PVP matches, and as far as magic DPS goes, it’s been a consistently effective Job.

Machinist and Summoner were some of our picks for high-tier DPS, but it seems they occupy the bottom rungs of DPS Jobs when it comes to win rate. Overall, things don’t look too hot for ranged DPS with none of them cracking a 50% win rate in any case. And while Samurai and Dragoon have wreaked havoc in Crystalline Conflict’s short history, they appear to not be so dominant when it comes to winning.

There are several reasons why Jobs that we think are high-tier would end up on the lower end of PVP win rate. Patches leading up to 6.18 shook things up in the meta, and Jobs have different potential depending on the skill level of players. For example, players at a lower skill level would be much more effective as a Machinist than a Reaper; but a highly skilled Reaper has more potential than a highly skilled Machinist. And remember, PVP is team-based, so team composition and synergy at different levels also have some influence on outcomes.

Other FFXIV PVP Matters

We wouldn’t put too much weight into the Season 2 win rates. Yoshida said that PVP Job changes are on the way with FFXIV Patch 6.2 (launching August 23); and the adjustments have already been solidified by the FFXIV team. So, don’t let these number influence your Job choice quite yet.

Additionally, Yoshida stated on stream that he’s interested in creating and holding official FFXIV PVP tournaments in the future. According to the r/FFXIV Discord translation, he’ll consider it “once everything calms down.”

In semi-related news, the Portraits (based on Adventurer Plates) that show up before PVP matches are coming to dungeon runs in the main game. However, we’ll have to wait a while since this is planned for Patch 6.3. The newly minted Adventurer Plates introduced in Patch 6.1 let players create and customize personalized profiles for their Warriors of Light, and it’s nice to see it being expanded to other parts of the game.
