Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.5 Brings New Hairstyles for Viera, Hrothgar

Call Jandelaine! It's time for a haircut!

Since Final Fantasy XIV's Shadowbringers, the Viera and Hrothgar races have been playing catch-up with hairstyles and hats. With the release of Patch 6.5, bunny boys, girls, and Hrothgar are getting a new selection of hairstyle options, as per the preliminary patch notes released on Sept. 29.

For Viera, the hairstyle options are an expansion of some of the styles that have been available to the rest of the FFXIV races for some time. This includes the Form and Function hairstyle, unlocked from Eureka, and what appears to be the Scanning for Style style from The Tower at Paradigm’s Breach, albeit with a ponytail.

For Hrothgar, they appear to be getting a variation on the classic Rainmaker hairstyle, and one that looks like a larger version of the Modern Legend hairstyle from the Ishgardian Restoration. It’s unconfirmed, but speculated, these use the same method to unlock as the existing hairstyles. The exact hairstyles themselves are also unconfirmed at the time of writing, and are educated guesses based on their appearance.

Additionally, there’s no total number on the hairstyles added. It could be the four shown in the patch notes, but it could be more.

Despite both Hrothgar and Viera initially struggling with a lack of variety for hairstyles, every major patch in Endwalker has added more. Additionally, the two races have been far more catered to in headgear, with helmets and hats items shaped to their unique proportions rather than just missing or having ears awkwardly clipping out. More recently released hairstyles, have been designed with the two races in mind as well.

What was once a common complaint for the FFXIV community is slowly becoming nothing more than a distant memory as Hrothgar and Viera players everywhere finally get the variety they’ve always wanted.
