FFXIV Community Creates Dazzling Gold Runways With New Show Emote

The Make It Rain 2022 event lets FFXIV players use the Show Left and Show Right emotes, which some are using to create sparkly gold paths.

I logged into Final Fantasy XIV this morning to take on the latest seasonal event, this year’s Make It Rain campaign, which revolves around helping Senor Sabotender get his groove back. What I did not expect was a makeshift gold carpet to be rolled out for me and anyone who teleported to the Ul’dah – Steps of Nald aetheryte. Thanks to the FFXIV community on my home server of Ultros in the Primal data center, I had a gilded path that led right to the event’s quest giver.

In the Make It Rain event quests, you earn the Show Left and Show Right emotes upon completion. This emote makes your character kneel and stretch out their arms as if to gleefully display whatever is at their side. It also creates a golden sparkling effect in the corresponding direction. With about 100 players in Ul’dah, lined up on each side of the path between the aetheryte and the quest-giving NPC Ollier, nothing but golden sparkles could be seen.

An overhead look at part of the gilded path created by FFXIV players in Ul’dah on the Ultros server.

Players who took part, or are taking part, in this emergent community event said it was unplanned and just kind of happened out of nowhere. One player, who is one of the originators of the #UltrosLine, replied to us on Twitter and shared a screenshot from when it was just a group of six players acting as “the Ul’dah Welcome Committee.” Participants quickly piled on, chatting in the in-game feed, encouraging others to fill the gaps, and goofing around. Talented Bards pulled up and played the Gold Saucer theme (and I was personally treated to a rendition of the Doki Doki Literature Club theme song).

Others clearly disabled auto-run and walked up and down the path in style or stopped in their tracks to gpose — I just know they were trying to flex with screenshots and video capture…of which I am guilty. Below, is a video we posted on our Twitter feed to give you an idea of what’s going down, thanks to the new emotes.

If you’re running the game on an old PS4 or a lower-end PC, RIP to your framerate. But still, you can feel like royalty strutting down the sparkly haze created by your fellow Warriors of Light, or contribute by helping hold the line during idle time. And with the recent Patch 6.11a update, players are no longer subjected to an auto logout timer — we can idle all day now! If you’re on Ultros or able to visit the server, take advantage and get some sweet gposing in.

This is yet another example of how FFXIV gives its players cool toys and tools to mess around with and create silly but joyful emergent moments like this. I’m kinda hyped to see what the expert gposing and glamour community does with these new emotes!

If you need assistance, we have a complete Make It Rain 2022 guide to help you unlock the Show Left and Show Right emotes yourself. Maybe you can be the cool one to start the runway on your server!

Editor’s note: We updated this story to include the Twitter reply from one of the players who helped start the community-built gilded runway in Ul’dah on Ultros.
