FFXIV Endwalker Soundtrack Launches in February With Wind-Up Vrtra Minion

Another Soken masterpiece to add to the collection.

Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker finally has a release date for official soundtrack sales, and it’s out soon, on February 23. The OST also comes packaged with another dragon companion, adding Wind-up Vrtra to the Warrior of Light’s minion collection.

The physical release includes 62 songs from version 6.x, including several already well endeared to the community from its Main Scenario Quest like Endwalker – Footfalls, Your Answer, and Flow. Square Enix also offered a peek at some retailer exclusive jacket covers for the album. It’s a bit annoying, but if you do want a specific limited edition sleeve, your best bet is to go ahead and pre-order from that particular store now. In the past, these sleeves have only run with an album’s initial print, and supplies often run out quickly.

If you’re waiting on the album to see a confirmation on stores outside of Japan, don’t fret. Those typically come just hours after announcements for Japanese fans or within the next day. Square Enix also offers those sleeve bonuses and other goodies through their official shop, but it’s unclear for now if we’ll have options for variants from Tower Records, Sony Music, or Yodobashi.

As for our minion bonus, Square Enix is adding another sibling from the First Brood to your collection. We’ve seen Hraesvelgr from The Scars of War Art Book, Nidhogg from The Far Edge of Fate album, and now we’re getting a tiny Vrtra. The least dramatic of the siblings—and my personal favorite—comes packaged as a code redeemable through the Mog Station. Endwalker’s soundtrack is worth it on its own, but Vrtra’s moments in the latest chapter of FFXIV are too good for me to miss out on. Look at this little guy, he rules.

More on Endwalker:

Other album bonuses include extra movies, like footage from China’s FFXIV 2021 Fan Festival and the official Endwalker music video, and a chiptune version of the Endwalker theme. Square Enix’s official OST trailer makes a mention of other goodies added to the disc, but we don’t know exactly what the “more” is for now.

With every expansion, I think I say something along the lines of, “this is Final Fantasy XIV’s best soundtrack yet,” but I mean it—this is the MMO’s best soundtrack yet. Composer Masayoshi Soken rarely misses, but this time around he’s once again delivered on a tracklist that adds another impossible layer of emotional weight to every scene. The highs of Soken’s composition, coupled with new lyrics thoughtfully written to reflect on a decade-old story, make Endwalker’s OST a musical achievement that stands out in a sea of other Final Fantasy greats. I can’t get it out of my head, so mark me down for like, ten of these at least.
