Patch 6.1 continues to hum along and so too does the Final Fantasy FXIV Fashion Report — for April 22, 2022 this time! Many players are still probably seeking out that the Pod 602 NieR: Automata mount, which still costs a whopping total of 300,000 MGP here. The FFXIV Fashion Report remains one of the best and easiest ways to farm said MGP. Sadly, you can’t just go out and hunt for it on the high seas like some kind of privateer. Despite what the theme for this week, Principle Pirate, might imply.

Matching that theme will help you get 80 points, however! The so-called “easy 80” — the Fashion Report score that provides the maximum reward for minimal effort — is mercifully easy this week yet again. At least as long as the prices of Soot Black Dye on your server aren’t too high. The only problem is that the theme for April 22, 2022 isn’t super flexible. You either need to follow these instructions or risk paying way, way more than you need.

FFXIV Fashion Report Scoring – The Basics

FFXIV fashion is an important aspect of the game, which is why the development team introduced the Fashion Report. This weekly challenge lets players play dress-up for fabulous prizes. It awards massive amounts of MGP (a special currency used in the Manderville Gold Saucer), which can be exchanged for items like exclusive mounts. To get a good chunk of MGP, you just need to earn the ever-elusive 80 points in the Fashion Report by wearing the correct glamour every weekend. While the score technically goes up to 100, the 80-point requirement is what you need to receive the maximum number of MGP in each event.

As always, you want to have at least a random piece of gear equipped to every slot on your character (not including the off-hand slot for secondary tools and shields). This will earn you at least a bare minimum number of Fashion Report points in every “unthemed” slot! It also doesn’t include Soul Crystals, so don’t worry about whatever Job you have equipped. You’re included, too, crafters and gatherers.

From there, you can increase your score by matching the categories laid out by the Fashion Report judge in each of the slots that are themed (i.e. named), as well as adding certain dyes. Matching the correct category of clothing to the weekly theme earns you points up to a maximum of 100. The correct color of dye (e.g. grey, white, black, etc.) adds a bonus of one point per slot; finding the right shade of dye within those colors (e.g. Ice Blue, Chocolate Brown, etc.) is worth two points per slot. The way this math works out, you should only need one matching item and two matching dyes or two matching items with zero dyes.

Using dye to boost your Fashion Report score is typically easier than matching every category of item perfectly. That’s because most dyes are awfully cheap and accessible, while many pieces of clothing are expensive — or at least require high ranks in crafting Jobs to create. That’s not always the case, of course, since some dyes are only available for special currencies or with real money from the Mog Station. There are always exceptions that prove the rule.

If you haven’t yet unlocked the Fashion Report, you must first complete the quest “Passion for Fashion” in the Wonder Square district of the Manderville Gold Saucer. This unlocks at Level 15. After that point, the fashion theme will update every week on Tuesdays at 1:00 a.m. PT / 4:00 a.m. ET. The named themes for each piece are repeatable, meaning the clothing required for particular gear themes is preset and may rotate in again later. It’s sometimes beneficial to hold on to old fashion fodder for this purpose. Finally, you can only start to submit yourself for judging on Fridays at 1:00 a.m. PT / 4:00 a.m. ET. Judging closes again on the following Tuesday (when the theme resets).

As one final note, Glamours do work. You can apply any of the relevant appearances to your gear with a Glamour and the Fashion Report will function as if you had that gear equipped.

FFXIV Fashion Report: Easy 80 Points for the Weekend of April 22, 2022

Basically every option this week for the theme of “Principled Pirate” is quite expensive and/or annoying to get. As such, I’ll dispense with most of the pleasantries and just focus on what works: the Bone Necklace and some relevant dyes. Technically, you have several easy options for the neck slot. The Fang Necklace barely costs more than the aforementioned option. The Horn Necklace can also be purchase for gil, but it’s several times more expensive than the bone variant, so why not just use that? Simple!

The only special exceptions I’ll mention are the Pagos Shirt and the Uraeus Coat. These are very popular glamour options among players who are already seriously into fashion. While they’re much more expensive than any option on there already, I want to acknowledge that some players may already have them. In which case you just need to wear either item over the body plus the Bone Necklace. If money is no object, consider checking out these items on the Market Board to see if you’d like to own them anyway!

You can purchase a Bone Necklace from any of the following NPC merchants. I recommend the first, Sorcha, since she’s literally right next to the Limsa Lominsa Central Aetheryte Plaza (where you teleport into the area). The necklace will only set you back 156 gil and can be found under the “Purchase Battlecraft Accessories” menu when speaking to one of the jewelers.

Next you want some ink. This week, you want three different items to be dyed correctly. You only need two, of course, but that’s if you use a 100 percent matching dye. I highly recommend avoiding that outcome since all but one of the dyes this week tend to be extremely expensive. Instead, grab two pots of Soot Black Dye and one pot of Ink Blue Dye. The latter option, Ink Blue, can be found with any standard Dyemonger in the game for a pittance of gil. You can find all their possible locations in the last at the end of this article! As for Soot Black: you might need to buy it on the Market Board. That is unless you have sufficiently leveled up your Reputation with the Ixal Tribe. If you have already done so (which I highly recommend doing as it will make future Fashion Reports cheaper and easier), you can just buy Soot Black Dye directly from the Ixali Vendor in the North Shroud (X: 24.9, Y: 22.7).

As for which dyes get extra points in this week’s Fashion Report, these are your complete options:

Most of this week’s dye options are actually very pricey. As such, I don’t recommend using dye at all this week. The Firmament dyes, purchased for Skybuilders’ Scrip, can cost tens of thousands of gil on the Market Board. You can farm them yourself, of course, but that’s time consuming and a pain. Especially when you don’t need them. Metallic Dyes and Jet Black Dye are in the same boat. They cost a fortune.

FFXIV Fashion Report Tips for This Week

This should be far and away your best, cheapest option for basically all players this week. The Bone Necklace only requires Level 8 and can be worn by any class in the game. The restrictions shouldn’t matter for anyone! The only possible sticking point will be the price of the Soot Black Dye on your server. Though that’s usually common enough that it runs for just a few hundred gil on the Market Board (if you can’t buy it yourself). It’s a damn sight better than the thousands of gil you’d otherwise spend.

Also note that you only need to pick three total items to dye. I highly recommend starting with the hands and their Ink Blue Dye, since that’s likely to be the cheapest to acquire. Then you can pick any two of the following to dye Soot Black: Head, Legs, and/or Feet.

As is always the case, you must first complete the quest “Color Your World” to apply dye in FFXIV. You can start it at level 15 as any class by speaking to Swyrgeim in Western Thanalan (X: 12.6, Y: 14.3). Even if you can hit the 80 points this week without dyes, it’s well worth doing for future FFXIV Fashion Report checks. You’ll even get a couple of free dyes to kick things off! These are normal Dyemonger dyes and will often work for future Fashion Reports.
