Leveling up your crafting classes in Final Fantasy XIV can be a difficult process. It’s always going to be a grind in some form. A whole 90 levels is a long way to go and there’s no clear-cut and easy path there. Those in a rush can take shortcuts like spending 5,000,000 Gil on resources, materials, and EXP boosts before crafting 500 items and brute forcing your way to the level cap. But if you’re like me, and want to make the process as smooth (and cost-effective) as possible, we have a list of the fastest, yet still reasonable methods, of grinding your FFXIV Armorer class from level 1 to level 90.

Before we start, we have a few disclaimers. There are indeed faster ways to level your crafters. Those methods, however, involve brute forcing your way up the ranks by spending a ton of Gil that you likely don’t have. The whole point of leveling up your crafters is to finally earn some money, right?

With that in mind our guide is going to focus on a few things: always doing your daily and weekly turn in quests as this is often the biggest amount of EXP you can get in the shortest amount of time. Outside of that, we’re going to provide you with new activities that you can grind infinitely depending on which level bracket you fall into. We’ll also give you advice on when to upgrade your equipment and how you can get your hands on it.

Grinding Armorer Levels 1-20

Level Up Quests

You should always be doing your level up quests as soon as you can. The EXP earned doesn’t scale as you level up so later down the line these will just be roadblocks for you. Some of them also unlock important skills and passives which will make your job easier.

Even if you aren’t rich but want to forgo chasing an item, check the Market Board to see if the item they’re asking you to obtain is at a reasonable price. FFXIV doesn’t stop you from simply purchasing the item yourself until much later on.

These also come with a selection of a properly leveled up piece of gear, helping you reduce the cost of outfitting yourself!

For the first 20 levels you will need the following:

Level 1: 1 Bronze Ingot
Level 5: 3 Bronze Hoplons
Level 10: 12 Bronze Plates
Level 15: 1 Decorated Bronze Barbut, 1 Bronze Buckler
Level 20: 1 Iron Hoplon (melded with one Materia)

Level 10 and Level 20 Armorer Gear

You may find yourself needing to upgrade your gear at level 10 and level 20. If you find the recipes are becoming too difficult to successfully craft, you likely have a few gear pieces lagging behind. Keep in mind that you will get a gear piece or two of these sets by doing the Armorer quests. All gear isn’t created equal, however. Jewelry mostly focuses on CP, but your hammer, pliers, and chest piece carry most of the Control and Craftsmanship bonuses — oftentimes you can get away with just upgrading those.

You can purchase all of the following from three vendors in the Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks. Hammers and pliers come from Syneyhil (X: 6.0, Y: 12.0), armor pieces from Iron Thunder (X: 8.0, Y: 12.0), and jewelry from Sorcha (X: 9.0, Y: 12.0).

Supply & Provisioning Grand Company Missions

After you join a Grand Company, the Personnel Officer will request a specific item for each of the Crafting and Gathering classes. This list is refreshed every single day, making it a fantastic way of gaining a level or two in the process.

As with the level up quests, you can purchase these items off the Market Board if you have the Gil to spend. If you’re feeling lazy, at least check whether an NPC sells the item. This is indicated on the tooltip which can save you a ton of money over the course of your grind. During the first 40 or so levels, almost everything can be purchased from the appropriate vendor in your Grand Company’s city.

If you’re crafting them yourself, make sure to try and create a high quality (HQ) version of the item — not only will it double the Grand Company Seals you earn, but also the EXP that comes with it.

Ixal Tribe Quests

Before you can access the Ixali Tribal Quests, you need to have completed the level 41 Main Scenario Quest “In Pursuit of the Past,” which takes place during the A Realm Reborn storyline. With that out of the way, you can now pick up “A Bad Bladder,” a level 1 quest from Scarlet in New Gridania (X: 9.9, Y: 11.4).

After completing the quest line, you want to always accept the daily quest called “Deliverance” from the Ixal NPC named Ehcatl Nine Manciple. This only takes one daily Tribe Quest Allowance from your total allotment of 12 per day, but it basically functions like a second set of Supply and Provisioning Missions. The Ixal will present you with a list of items to craft. For each one you provide, you get more EXP, building towards a total quota for the day. You can’t craft more items than your quota allows, but it’s a good way to get extra EXP from a single Tribe Quest Allowance.

You can keep on completing more Ixal tribe quests for the Ehcatl Nine faction on any crafting Job. But the EXP gains are most efficient between levels 1 and 50 as they scale all the way up to a cap of 43,000 EXP.

Custom Deliveries

If you’ve completed “The Better Half” quest as part of Heavensward MSQ, you’ll have access to the first Custom Deliveries vendor. Head to Morgayne in Foundation (X: 10.1, Y: 10.4) and pick up the “Inscrutable Tastes” quest. Follow this until you’ve completed the “Arms Wide Open” quest from Geimlona in Idyllshire (X: 5.8, Y: 6.9).

At that point you’ll unlock Custom Deliveries for Zhloe Aliapoh. Each week you can deliver up to six items to her for a big boost of EXP and White Crafters Scrips. For the first five weeks these items are in a specific order and after that they’re random. The good news is all of the materials you need can easily be purchased from a nearby vendor for cheap. In this case, the Scrap Salvager NPC in Idyllshire (X: 5.9, Y: 7.3). You can either buy components and craft the specific item you need or buy the materials to make that component and save a small amount of Gil.

If you have access to another Custom Delivery vendor, you can deliver an additional six items to them for a total of 12 per week. Make sure you do this to optimize both your EXP gains and your White Crafters Scrip income!

Levequests

All the aforementioned content are the daily and weekly activities you should be doing. But if you want to do more, Levequests are the best way to accelerate your progress. The downside here is you’re limited by the number of Levequest Allowances you have. You only get six per 24 hours with a maximum of 100 stored at once.

Here are our recommendations as to which Levequests to grind:

Level 1: “Eyes Bigger Than the Plate” from Wyrkholsk in Lower La Noscea (X: 31.4, Y: 19.9). Awards 2,320 EXP and 232 Gil for each high quality bronze plate.
- Do this three times to get from Level 1 to Level 5.
Level 5: “Stait Ain’t the Gate” from Wyrkholsk in Lower La Noscea (X:31.4, Y:19.9). Awards 16,920 EXP and 346 Gil for each high quality Bronze Scutum.
- Do this one time to get from Level 5 to Level 10.
Level 10: “Greavous Losses” from Swygskyf in Western La Noscea (X:34.8, Y:31.7). Awards 26,180 EXP and 574 Gil for each high quality Bronze Sabatons.
- Do this two times to get from Level 10 to Level 15.
Level 15: “Fashion Report” from T’mokkri in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.0, Y:11.0). Awards 37,820 EXP and 748 Gil for each high-quality Iron Cuirass.
- Do this three times to get from Level 15 to Level 20.

Total cost: 9 Levequest Allowances.

Grinding Armorer Levels 20-40

For this section of levels, keep doing all of the aforementioned content. We are, however, going to replace Levequests with Ishgardian Restoration as it rewards more EXP and doesn’t require us to keep going to different locations. Again, there’s no mandate here towards grinding Ishgardian Restoration — we’re simply offering you the best way to grind. Otherwise, keep doing all of the daily quests above!

Level Up Quests

In total you will need the following items for your level up quests:

Level 25: 1 Steel Ingot (HQ)
Level 30: 1 Steel Chainmail (HQ)
Level 35: 1 Steel Frypan (HQ)

Ishgardian Restoration

To unlock what was formerly known as Ishgardian Restoration, pick up the quest “Towards the Firmament” by interacting with the Recruitment Board in Ishgard, Foundation (X: 9.7, Y: 11.5). Finishing the very brief questline that follows will unlock the option to yravel to the Firmament when interacting with the Aetheryte in Ishgard. That way, you don’t have to walk back through the gate every single time you want to return.

While you can technically perform Ishgard Restoration activities as any crafter at level 20 or higher, you actually need to first complete the level 60 quest “Litany of Peace” from Heavensward MSQ to unlock this side quest itself.

If you’ve done that, you can find these Collectable recipes in your Crafting Log. Check the Special Recipes tab, select “Ishgard Restoration” and look under the “Restoration (4)” category. From this point forward, you just need the appropriate materials (either gathered in the Diadem or bought from other players on the market). If you’ve got high enough Gatherers, feel free to get them yourself. Otherwise you are going to have to spend some Gil on the Market Board.

Note that you’ll also need one normal, non-Diadem crafting material as an ingredient. For the Armorer, you want to make as many Grade 4 Skybuilders’ Steel Plates as possible. The aforementioned Grade 4 Steel Plate needs one (1) Iron Ore and five (5) Approved Grade 4 Skybuilders’ Iron Ore.

Once you have a Collectable or two, hand them in to the Collectable Appraiser NPC called Potkin. He’ll reward you with more EXP and Skybuilders’ Scrips. As an added bonus, he’ll also stamp your “Kupo Vouchers.” These are essentially infinite, free lottery tickets. Whenever you reach five stamps, you can turn in one Kupo Voucher to Lizbeth, the NPC next to Potkin, for chances at extra prizes.

Levequests

If you have Levequest Allowances to chew up, take on the follow quests:

Level 20: “No Hand-me-downs” from Nyell in South Shroud (X: 25.2, Y: 20.2). Awards 43,200 EXP and 616 Gil for each HQ Iron Vambraces.
- Do this four times to get from Level 20 to Level 25.
Level 25: “Ingot We Trust” from T’mokkri in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 11.0, Y: 11.0). Awards 32,160 EXP and 574 Gil for each HQ Steel Ingot.
- Do this five times to get from Level 25 to Level 30.
Level 30: “Aurochs Star” from T’mokkri in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.0, Y:11.0). Awards 135,460 EXP and 1,040 Gil for each HQ Bull Hoplon.
- Do this three times to get from Level 30 to Level 35.
Level 35: “Very Slow Array” from T’mokkri in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.0, Y:11.0). Awards 100,760 EXP and 976 Gil for each HQ Mythril Plate.
- Do this six times to get from Level 35 to Level 40.

Total cost: 18 Levequest Allowances.

Grinding Armorer Levels 40-60

As we start to get into the mid-range levels, there are some adjustments you’ll need to make. Once you hit level 50, stop doing the Ixal Daily Quests. They will stop scaling with the amount of EXP required to level up and become less efficient to run. Instead, we’re going to replace them with crafting quests for the Moogle tribe in The Churning Mists.

If you want to do more than the daily quests, Ishgardian Restoration is still the best content to grind.

Level Up Quests

In total you will need the following items for your level up quests:

Moogle Tribe Quests

After you’ve gone through the arduous process of unlocking the Moogle tribe, they’ll start requesting you craft items for them as well each day. The downside is you’re now limited to three completions per day. The one exception is that every time you rank up your reputation with a tribe, you’re allowed to do another three quests for them that day as long as you have enough total allowances left over.

This makes it a good idea to fulfill the daily quests for a tribe you’re about to rank up first every day. That way, you don’t run out of total allowances and can potentially level up your crafters faster.

Levequests

If you have Levequest Allowances to run through, we have some recommendations. These can now be found in Foundation in Ishgard and we highly suggest you never do Large-Scale Levequests from Eloin. These cost ten whole Levequest Allowances and are less efficient than doing ten regular Leves.

Level 40: “Everyone Cut Footlose” from T’mokkri in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X :11.0, Y: 11.0). Awards 181,180 EXP and 1,512 Gil for each HQ Mythril-plated Jackboots.
- Do this five times to get from Level 40 to Level 45.
Level 45: “Cobalt Aforethought” from T’mokkri in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 11.0, Y: 11.0). Awards 151,140 EXP and 968 Gil for each HQ Cobalt Plate.
- Do this eight times to get from Level 45 to Level 50.
Level 50: “Hauberk and No Play” from Eloin in Foundation (X: 10.1, Y: 10.3). Awards 422,700 EXP and 1,248 Gil for each HQ Mythrite Hauberk of Maiming.
- Do this three times to get from Level 50 to Level 52.

Grinding Armorer Levels 60-70

Another small change as we go into a higher leveling phase: replace the Moogle Tribe Quests with the Namazu Tribe Quests in the Azim Steppe. If you don’t have these fish folk yet, we have a whole guide dedicated to unlocking the Namazu and their daily quests.

If you want to do more than the daily quests, Ishgardian Restoration is still the best option for grinding.

Level Up Quests

Rejoice! You’ve reached the “easiest” level up quests out there. For these, the game will provide you with the necessary materials as you journey around Kugane. As long as you have the proper gear, you don’t need to pay for materials. That also means you can’t purchase these items on the Market Board. There’s no cheating your way out of these unmarketable items.

In total you will need the following items:

Namazu Tribe Quests

Namazu missions work just like Moogle and Ixal quests. You craft items or perform some equally simple task in exchange for EXP and other rewards (though you can also complete the quests as a Miner or Botanist). The quests will change depending on whether you play a crafter or a gatherer, as will the rewards. Miners and Botanists get free a Cordial in addition to their EXP and Gil; crafters get free Crafting Catalysts.

Levequests

If you have Levequest Allowances to chew up we have some recommendations.

Level 60: “Mail It In” from Keltraeng in Kugane (X: 11.6, Y: 9.6). Awards 1,189,000 XP and 4,992 Gil for each HQ High Steel Scale Mail of Fending.
- Do this five times to go from Level 60 to Level 64.
Level 64: “Greaving” from Keltraeng in Kugane (X: 11.6, Y: 9.6). Awards 1,418,000 XP and 5,990 Gil for each HQ Doman Iron Greaves of Maiming.
- Do this three times to go from Level 64 to Level 66.
Level 66: “Hauberk and No Play” from Keltraeng in Kugane (X: 11.6, Y: 9.6). Awards 1,938,000 XP and 6,490 Gil for each HQ Doman Steel Tabard of Fending.
- Do this five times to go from Level 66 to Level 70.

Total cost: 13 Levequest Allowances.

Grinding Armorer Levels 70-90

You know the deal by now. We’re going to drop those Namazu Tribe Quests and replace them with the Dwarf Tribe Quests in Kholusia for the next batch of crafting levels.

Dwarf Tribe Quests

These little fellas of Norvrandt in The First will be the source of your daily tribe quests, and the formula remains the same. To maximize your EXP gains, make sure to do three quests per day for the Dwarf Tribe.

The Crystalline Mean and Studium Deliveries

Starting at level 70, you can unlock the deliveries at the Crystalline Mean in The Crystarium once you’re in the Shadowbringers campaign. Then, starting at level 80, you get a new set of very similar class quests in Old Sharlayan at The Studium once you’re in Endwalker.

These deliveries function a bit like the role quests available to your main Jobs. Crafting and gathering Jobs are lumped together into several subtypes that each share a questline. Blacksmith, Armorer, and Goldsmith all share the “Facet of Forging” missions in the Crystalline Mean, for example. The appropriate NPC will ask you to craft certain items, usually a total of six (6) items. Fulfilling this delivery then unlocks more of the storyline and another set of instructions.

You can find your tasks under the “Story” section of the “Special Recipes” tab of your Crafting Log. Crystarium Deliveries use normal items while Studium Deliveries task you with making Collectables. Just like with Supply and Provisioning Missions, as well as normal Collectables, your Quality and Collectability boost your rewards. That means you should always turn in HQ items and Collectables with the highest tier of Collectability.

These quests are a one-time deal! You can never repeat the story missions again, so getting the maximum reward every single time is recommended. Besides EXP, you get Crafters’ Scrips — the number of which is also boosted by turning in HQ items and maxed out Collectables.

Just so you set your expectations correctly, we want to emphasize that you can only do these once per the class groupings. If you do these for Armorer, they will not be available when your Blacksmith and Goldsmith get to this level.

Level 80 Armorer Gear

You can purchase most of the following items in The Crystarium. Pliers come from Vernarth (X: 9.0, Y: 14.0), armor pieces from Doddard (X: 9.0, Y: 14.0), and jewelry from Ania (X: 9.0, Y: 14.0).

Again, these aren’t required upgrades. If you’re struggling to craft the new HQ items, first spend Gil on your crafting tools and chest piece to see if that helps. Make sure to check the Market Board for deals on these as they’ll cost you upwards of 200,000 Gil in total.

Drop Ishgardian Restoration, Swap to Collectables

After level 80, Ishgardian Restoration turn ins become worth a measly 1,000 EXP. It’s time to switch over to crafting Collectables. Craft the level 80-90 Collectables as you increase in rank and you’ll earn between 1,000,000 and 2,000,000 EXP for each turn in. You’ll also get White Crafters Scrip which is actually useful unlike Levequests which give you less than 10,000 Gil in return.

Levequests

At this point, Levequests start to make less sense as the sheer scale of EXP you need continues to grow. They’re a good way to supplement your progress, however. So if you decide to do them, take on the following Levequests:

Level 70: “Time to Fry” from Moyce in The Crystarium (X:10.0, Y:9.0). Awards 1,131,000 EXP and 7,680 Gil for each HQ Deepgold Rail Frypan.
- Do this ten times to get from Level 70 to Level 74.
Level 74: “A New Regular” from Moyce in The Crystarium (X:10.0, Y:9.0). Awards 1,583,000 EXP and 58,678 Gil for each HQ Bluespirit Gauntlets of Fending.
- Do this ten times to get from Level 74 to Level 78.
Level 78: “Trial and Error” from Moyce in The Crystarium (X:10.0, Y:9.0). Awards 3,423,000 EXP and 9,676 Gil for each HQ Dwarven Mythril Chainmail of Fending.
- Do this three times to get from Level 78 to Level 80.

Total cost: 23 Levequest Allowances.

Level 80: “Haste for High Durium” from Grigge in Old Sharlayan (X:12.2, Y:13.4). Awards 1,449,000 EXP and 4,900 Gil for three HQ High Durium Nuggets.
- Do this nine times to get from Level 80 to Level 82.
Level 82: “The Incomplete Costume” from Grigge in Old Sharlayan (X:12.2, Y:13.4). Awards 3,165,000 EXP and 9,840 Gil for each HQ High Durium Armor of Fending.
- Do this 16 times to get from Level 82 to Level 88.
Level 78: “Additions to the Armoire” from Grigge in Old Sharlayan (X:12.2, Y:13.4). Awards 4,514,000 EXP and 10,080 Gil for each HQ Chondrite Top of Maiming.
- Do this five times to get from Level 88 to Level 90.

Total cost: 30 Levequest Allowances.
