We have come around to that time again, when old Allagan Tomestones pass by the wayside. We all fondly remember Tomestones of Creation, Tomestones of Lore, and Tomestones of Phantasmagoria, eh? Those were good times and great memories. With Patch 6.2 on the horizon for Final Fantasy XIV, we say bye to another: Tomestones of Aphorism. But they will still have some use after the patch hits!
See, with every new raid tier, the FFXIV team has to make sure that current players don’t have a leg up in buying the newest Tomestone gear. To that end, they introduce a new upper-tier Tomestone that you get from raiding and Expert Duty Roulettes, uncap the new old upper tier, and begin to remove the older lower tier.
UPDATE: Patch 6.2 is officially live! As a result, we’ve updated some of the text in this article to reflect the present tense and confirm the exchange rate of old Tomestones.
That’s what’s happening in FFXIV Patch 6.2. The new upper-tier Tomestones are Allagan Tomestones of Causality. As always, these new Tomestones have a total cap of 2,000 and a weekly cap of 450. That’s as many as you can earn from one Tuesday reset to the next. The old upper-tier, Allagan Tomestones of Astronomy, are now uncapped by comparison. This means you can farm an unlimited amount per week, up to the total inventory cap of 2,000.
The previous lower-tier Tomestones, Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism, are no longer obtainable in the game. Any Duty Finder content that used to award these will now offer Astronomy Tomestones instead. Finally, the long-forgotten ones from Shadowbringers, Allagan Tomestones of Allegory and Allagan Tomestones of Revelation, will be removed from the game entirely.
How to Exchange Tomestones of Aphorism
So, what do you do with these discontinued Tomestones? Well, you can spend them prior to the patch if you really have a larger number lying around. Once Patch 6.2 hits, you can go talk to Auriana in Mor Dhona (X: 22.7, Y: 6.7). The last option in her menu will be “Allagan Tomestone Exchange.” Select this to exchange your remaining Tomestones of Aphorism for Tomestones of Astronomy.
This will not be a straight 1:1 conversion, which is why we stress that you should probably spend the Tomestones now unless you’re already at cap. The conversion rate these days is typically 4:1. Meaning if you have a full 2,000 Tomestones of Aphorism, for example, that number will convert to 500 Tomestones of Astronomy. The four-to-one conversation rate remains the same in Patch 6.2 (as you can see for yourself in the screenshot above).
If you happened to have some old Tomestones of Allegory and Tomestones of Revelation, you could convert those over to Tomestones of Poetics through Auriana until Patch 6.2. Once the patch hit, those Tomestones are now gone completely. If you failed to exchange them already… Sorry. You’re out of luck.
