The Vainguard, a Destiny Fashion Column: Season's End Edition

Today we bid farewell to the Season of the Undying. And as we wrap up our Vex Offensives and seasonal quests, we look back at the fashion of the last few months. For this week’s Vainguard, I asked you to deck out your Guardians in seasonal armor and ornaments, and you came through with a range of resplendent and robotic creations.

Destiny 2

Dillon Skiffington (@Skiffington_)

Fanbyte’s own Dillon Skiffington is back with a look that’s primarily composed of seasonal ornaments — but with the key replacement of a different pair of pants. It’s a smart move, since the seasonal Hunter leg ornament is kind of overpowering in its glowing, asymmetrical design. What we get here is sleek and simplified, a look that emphasizes an inverted triangle shape and creates an unusual silhouette for a Hunter.

Destiny 2

YOUR MOM (@Roxyorz)

HELLO. I’M A TITAN. SEE HOW THE LIGHT REFLECTS OFF MY GLISTENING ARMOR, POLISHED WITH THE FINEST SPACE OILS? BUT DO NOT LOOK TOO CLOSELY, FOR IT IS LIKE THE SUN, AND MAY BLIND YOU. THIS IS FITTING, FOR I DRAW UPON SOLAR ENERGY IN MY CEASELESS BATTLES AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF HUMANITY. DID I MENTION THAT I’M A TITAN. IT’S NICE TO MEET YOU.

Destiny 2

I’m of two minds on the Warlock Eververse Undying armor. On the one hand, it’s a cool space robe with a helmet that looks like it’s the shell of some alien monster. On the other, it looks kind of like a space bath robe that a Warlock hastily threw on to fight some Vex that happened to materialize in his front yard (in this scenario the Warlock keeps his helmet on when he showers). But now that I say it, I think that makes me like it even more.

This is it, man. This is it. Guardians like this are why I got into this business. Look at it — the way the Wormhusk Crown ornament sits comfortably alongside the biomechanical armor, the subtle details in the leg armor, the tasteful asymmetry. It’s a joy to behold. I’m weeping. I am now calling in sick from work with Stendhal syndrome.

That’s all for this week, and for the Season of the Undying! Thanks to everyone who submitted looks this season. The Vainguard will be back next week, so keep an eye out on Twitter between now and then for another call for Guardians as we move into the Season of the Dawn and a whole new wardrobe. And remember: saving the universe is no excuse for looking sloppy.
