If you play Destiny 2, you might have occasionally seen a message pop up on the side of the screen noting “New Adventures Available.” If you started playing in the last couple of years, you might not have any idea what this message actually means. “Adventures” aren’t referenced anywhere in the game, so what’s this all about?

Well, as of this writing, all that message indicates is that the Daily Reset has occurred. At 1 PM Eastern or your local equivalent everyday, Destiny 2 hits its Daily Reset, refreshing bounty vendors and a number of other features and activities. So why not just have a message saying “Daily Reset Incoming” or something like that? As it turns out, the Adventure message is actually a holdover from a feature that used to be in the game but hasn’t been for a while.

This feature was called, appropriately enough, Adventures. These activities weren’t selected from a playlist like Strikes or Crucible. Instead, they were initiated in patrol zones at special markers. Adventures were kind of like mini quests you could play solo, each with little snippets of dialogue and narratives. They typically weren’t anything hugely relevant to the greater plot of Destiny 2, but sometimes granted unique rewards.

For the most part, Destiny 2‘s Adventures weren’t all that memorable. But a couple do stand out. In one, the AI Failsafe asks the Guardian to track down the remains of her crew who were killed by the Vex. In the process, they discover a non-aggressive Harpy that may contain her old Captain’s consciousness. Another Adventure on Io detailed Asher Mir’s plans to attempt to create a form of synthetic Light.

Like Io, however, Adventures were vaulted with the release of Beyond Light in 2021. It seems unlikely that they’ll ever come back. While they were fun diversions, they kind of muddled the Destiny 2 narrative experience — between them, World Quests, the campaign, Strikes, and so on, it was a pretty confusing system. As if continuing that legacy of confusion, the message announcing their rotation remains in the game to this day. But, if nothing else, it’s still a handy way of knowing when the Daily Reset occurs.
