The Best Ways to Farm Glimmer in Destiny 2

A complete guide to the most efficient ways to get Glimmer in Destiny 2.

A massive change in Destiny 2’s economy made Glimmer much more important for players. Bungie announced it would slowly remove Legendary Shards from the game in a This Week in Destiny blog, placing more value on Glimmer at Monument to Lost Lights and even ritual gear focusing. Glimmer has been a core currency type since Destiny 1, and now it will become the primary currency in Destiny 2 starting in The Final Shape expansion.

Glimmer drops from all kinds of sources in the game, both in the open world and from activities. In the open world, players can get Glimmer by defeating enemies, collecting chests, patrol tasks, and even Public Events. In terms of activities, players can get varying amounts of Glimmer from ritual playlists to Lost Sectors to endgame activities like dungeons and raids. Also, simply leveling up and completing seasonal challenges for the season pass is an easy way to earn Glimmer bundles. If players need a pile of Glimmer instantly, they can buy Glimmer from Master Rahool, too.

With that in mind, here’s a guide on the best ways to farm Glimmer.

How to Farm Glimmer in Destiny 2

Players can passively farm Glimmer in a reasonable amount of time by completing objectives and defeating enemies. If players aren’t worried about getting Glimmer in a pinch, just playing the game is a great way to fill up on Glimmer. However, expect to see higher Glimmer gains from endgame activities like raids or dungeons, harder Nightfalls and Trials of Osiris matches, and a good amount from playlist activities like Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit.

Players can increase Glimmer drops by using the Glimmer Booster mod on Ghosts, as well. There are up to six levels of Glimmer Booster mods, and they can cost up to six energy slots on Ghost shells. A common practice is having two Ghost shells, with one being a Ghost shell for XP boosters and bonus loot mods, and another being exclusively for farming Glimmer. But for those who want to get to maximum Glimmer as soon as possible, two ways stand out.

Public Events

Public Events, more particularly Heroic Public Events, are an excellent way to get Glimmer. The European Dead Zone is favored by most players when it comes to Public Events, as the region is large enough to consecutively have a Public Event active in one part or the other. Moreover, it has multiple patrol destinations for players to quickly chain between Public Events, which makes for optimal farming. Another reason the EDZ is so popular for Glimmer farming is the fact that it is easy to solo Public Events and turn them into Heroic Public Events.

Public Event farming isn’t limited to the EDZ since Nessus matches how frequently Public Events appear. But it’s harder to chain Public Events in Nessus and get to Heroic Public Events solo than it is in the EDZ, which is why EDZ remains the top choice for Public Event farming.

These are the estimated Glimmer drops for Public Events, the amounts may slightly differ for players.

  • Public Event: approximately 5,000 Glimmer
  • Heroic Public Event: approximately 13,00 Glimmer

Planetary Caches

For players who want to speed up their Glimmer gains while farming Public Events, opening chests on patrol will grant 550 Glimmer for each opened chest. While traveling between Public Events be sure to pick up caches along the way. The Wombo Detector mod on Ghosts detects chests in a 50-meter radius around the player.
