The latest expansion for Destiny 2, The Witch Queen, is a little more than a month away, which means there’s going to be a brand new raid. While most of the details around the raid are unknown, we know it will be released on March 5 for all available platforms. Given how popular day one races are in the Destiny 2 community, you’ll definitely want to give this activity a try when it drops.
Here is what we know about this upcoming raid so far.
Witch Queen Raid Release Date & Time
If you are looking to jump into the new Witch Queen raid as soon as it goes live, this activity will launch on March 5 at 10:00 a.m. PST. The Power level of the raid is 1530 for Contest Mode, but the name has not been revealed yet. With the Contest modifier enabled, your Power will be limited regardless if you’re over the raid’s Power cap. However, this is only for the first day and will be disabled 24 hours after the raid launches.
For those looking to participate in the day one raid race, you will want to prepare as much as possible. I’ve already put together a comprehensive guide on everything you should be doing, but here are the absolute basics.
The first thing you’ll want to ensure is that all three of your characters are at 1330 Power before February 22. You’ll also want to start hoarding bounties and not turning them in. This is because they can give you a big experience boost and help you unlock artifact mods quickly. Given the raid race is capped at 1330 Power, it’s critical that you hit this number before March 5. It’s also worth considering gathering as many consumable materials as possible like Legendary Shards, Enhancement Cores, and Ascendant Shards. We don’t know how much crafting will cost, so you’ll want to have a nice reserve saved up.

When the actual expansion is released, go through it on your main account on the first week until you hit the soft Power cap. Then do the same thing with your two other characters. Once all three have hit the soft cap, you can complete your pinnacles for the week on your main account and then your alternates. However, when the second week rolls around, start grinding through your Powerful and Pinnacle rewards on your alternates before switching to your main account. This ensures that your main Guardian will have the highest light and is ready for the Witch Queen’s raid. Thanks to a This Week at Bungie post, we also learned that the soft Power cap is 1550 with the hard Power cap being 1560.
Keep in mind, the Contest modifier is typically 20 Power below each encounter. If I had to guess, it will most likely be around 1530 or 1540. Given you’ll have a little under two weeks to grind your Power, this shouldn’t be too difficult. Just make sure to complete all your Powerful and Pinnacle rewards on each character.
