Destiny 2 Season of the Lost is here and we’re heading back to The Dreaming City. Acting as a prologue to The Witch Queen expansion, this season revolves around freeing Savathun from her worm god to save Osiris from her clutches. Along with a new seasonal activity, players can also obtain new armor, weapons, exotics, and in-game consumables. Unsurprisingly, there is a new batch of seasonal weapons for players to hunt down and use. One of these is the potentially strong Canis Major grenade launcher.
Here’s how to get it and what rolls you’ll want to hunt for:
How to Get Canis Major
You can earn Canis Major in a number of different ways, almost all of which involve spending Parallax Trajectory. The first is as a reward at the end of seasonal story missions, which are appearing weekly However, it appears that you can basically get any seasonal armor or weapon as a reward, so your chances are pretty slim. Another method is by opening the reward chance whenever you finish the Astral Alignment activity. Keep in mind, you will need to spend 150 Parallax Trajectory to receive a seasonal reward. You can unlock The Way Forward upgrade to give you a 10% chance at not consuming any Parallax Trajectory upon opening this chest. Additionally, the Canis Major can be given out as a reward via a rank-up package at the Wayfinder’s Compass or (very rarely) at the end of playlist activities.
All that being said, the best method for consistently farming the Canis Major is to focus Umbral Engrams at the H.E.L.M. There are four different Focused Umbral Engrams you can use to possibly earn this grenade launcher as a reward. The first two, Engram of the Found and Tools of the Lost, can be found in Tier I. In Tier 2, you can choose the Wayfinder’s Concussion focus to narrow the loot pool down to just the Fractethyst and Canis Major.
However, the best option is in Tier 3 and called Wayfinder’s Blast. Not only will this give you a 50% chance to earn a Canis Major, but each one will come with alternate perks in the primary columns. Despite being costing a whopping 600 Parallax Trajectory, it’s definitely worth the cost to raise your chances at a god roll. Just remember, you are limited to around five Tier 3 engrams a week so spend wisely!
Canis Major God Rolls
Canis Major PVE God Roll
- Volatile Launch or Confined Launch
- Spike Grenades
- Clown Cartridge or Field Prep
- Vorpal Weapon or Chain Reaction
When it comes to the Canis Major, there are surprisingly strong perk combinations you can acquire. Even though grenade launchers aren’t the best DPS option right now, it’s definitely worth picking up one for the future. In the first slot, you will want either Volatile Launch or Confined Launch. Both of these give us a whopping +15 to our Blast Radius, which is fantastic for grenade launchers. You’ll also want Spike Grenades since these increase the damage of direct hits, making this weapon especially useful against bosses or Champions.
In the first primary perk slot, I recommend either Field Prep or Clown Cartridge. Both are solid options, but if you are going for solely damaging bosses then I suggest Field Prep. Not only does it increase your reload speed but you get more rounds to fire at the enemy. Clown Cartridge is better for those who like to be on the go and don’t want to be confined to just using this firearm for big, static targets. Finally, the two perks to look out for are Vorpal Weapon and Chain Reaction. The former is an obvious choice if this is going to be your main damage source for bosses, while Chain Reaction lets you wipe out waves of enemies with only one or two grenades.
Canis Major PVP God Roll
- Quick Launch
- Proximity Grenades
- Killing Wind
- Rampage
Even though I personally find grenade launchers pretty inconsistent in PVP, there is a solid roll you can acquire. In the barrel slot, we are looking for Quick Launch to projectile’s velocity and handling. This allows us to swiftly take down mobile or multiple targets. As for our magazine, I personally like Proximity Grenades since they typically making securing kills much more consistent. However, you can go for Spike Grenades if you are confident that you can hit a Guardian instead of the area at their feet. We’re also picking Killing Wind for our first primary perk, as the benefits it offers after taking down our first foe are too good to ignore. Synergizing with Killing Wind is Rampage, which increases our damage for a brief period of time. These two together make this Power weapon far deadlier after each successive kill.
