Apex Legends Mad Maggie Guide - How to Unlock Mad Maggie & Abilities

Beyond Thunderdome.

Apex Legends Season 12 is almost here, and it’s one of the biggest updates. Not only are we getting new points of interest in the Olympus map, but players will also get to experience a new, chaotic Limited Time Mode called Control. Of course, the biggest draw will be Mad Maggie, the latest legend joining the roster. A supremely aggressive legend, Mad Maggie was introduced back in Season 8 and is finally becoming a playable character.

Here’s a guide on how to unlock Mad Maggie and what her passive, tactical, and ultimate abilities are.

How to Unlock Mad Maggie

The only way to unlock Mad Maggie is by spending either 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. You can earn the Legend Tokens by leveling up your core account (not your Battle Pass), while the Apex Coins must be purchased with real-world money or by completing steps in the Battle Pass. You will need to spend at least $10 to purchase Mad Maggie since you cannot just buy the exact amount needed to unlock her.

There is no other way to gain access to her, so if you don’t want to shell out some cash, then get ready to grind some levels. How long this takes will vary based on your level, as those just starting out will have a much easier time accruing Legend Tokens than those at or above Level 100.

Mad Maggie Abilities

This damage legend is all about forcing your enemies out of cover and closing the gap. Her passive, Warlord’s Ire, temporarily highlights enemies she has damaged. This is only viewable for the player controlling Mad Maggie and the outline of her foe lasts only a couple of seconds before vanishing. Warlord’s Ire also boosts her movement speed when she is holding a shotgun. After some testing, this appears to be about the same speed you’d run with stowed weapons. Switching to another, non-shotgun will lower your movement speed.

Maggie’s Tactical Ability is Riot Drill. Fired in a straight line, it strikes a surface and quickly burrows into it. On the other side, fire will spew out and burn anyone or anything standing there. It deals a total of 160 damage if you stay in the fire during the drill’s duration, and can pierce just about everything. Riot Drill is especially effective against people camping doors and behind Rampart’s barricades; it can even go through Gibraltar’s dome. This makes it especially good at pressuring your foes when pushing them, or harassing enemies trying to heal behind cover.

Finally, Maggie’s Ultimate is Wrecking Ball. Launched in a straight line (but capable of bouncing off surfaces it hits), this item crashes forward and leaves behind a trail of mines. While those mines detonate and damage foes who step on them, allies will gain a big speed boost. If an enemy is struck by the ball itself, they will take 20 damage and (usually) get launched into the air. This gives the ability a remarkable amount of flexibility, allowing skilled players to either kill foes trying to flee or help allies with rotating to a more advantageous position.
