The ColourPop and Animal Crossing Collab Is Giving Me Everything I Need

A much more inspired collaboration than the recent one between MAC and The Sims.

ColourPop, the popular makeup brand, has announced a collaboration with Nintendo and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The cosmetics company first teased the collaboration on Jan. 14, when its Twitter account tweeted the following:

The following day, ColourPop formally announced the crossover. “We’re ready for an island adventure,” said a tweet. “#ColourPopxAnimalCrossing available on 01/28 at 10am pst on http://colourpop.com!”

From the screenshot, we can tell there are going to be four eyeshadow quad palettes. They will be dedicated to Isabelle, Blathers and Celeste, the Able Sisters, and Tom Nook and Timmy and Tommy, respectively.

Isabelle’s palette (5 Star Island) will have a yellow shade resembling her coat named “Isabelle,” along with shades “Island Tune,” “Island Designer,” and “Resident Rep.” Blathers and Celeste’s palette (What A Hoot) will have the shades “Meteor Shadow,” “Celestial,” “All Aflutter,” and “WHO!” The Able Sisters palette (Labelle of the Ball) will carry the shades known as, “Able Sisters,” “Tailors Ticket,” “Custom Design,” and “Serene Sable.” Lastly, the Nook family palette (Nook Inc.) will have “Yes…yes!” in addition to “Made in the Shade,” “CEO,” and “Water Landing.”

There won’t be just palettes, though. We can see villagers like Rosie, Goldie, and Bunnie on the borders of a pink blush powder. The peach blush powder is decorated by villagers like Stitches, Fauna, and Lily. There will also be a Super Shock Shadow and a pure glitter formula. Finally, there will be six new Lip Tints, ranging from a soft nude to a strong red.

I personally love that the eyeshadows are quad palettes, for bigger palettes run the risk of being more wasteful. Quad palettes use less packaging and, because of their limited swatches, it’s more likely that you’ll use each color in the one you buy. I already have my eye on the Isabelle and Blathers and Celeste palettes, as well as on the bottom two lip tints that can be seen in the picture.

Overall, I’m super excited about this collection. It’s so adorable, and so in the spirit of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Not many fans can say the same about the most recent collaboration between MAC and The Sims, for example — an activation that quickly received backlash. Meanwhile, this ColourPop collaboration is more than just one small eyeshadow palette and more than skin-deep (or packaging-deep). Basically, this is how it’s done. If ColourPop sends items to both beauty gurus and members of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community, I think they’ll have a pretty successful collection on their hands.

This isn’t the first Animal Crossing: New Horizons activation in the beauty world. Last year, Australian clothing brand BlackMilk Clothing released a gorgeous Animal Crossing: New Horizons collection. I ordered two dresses as soon as I could, both of which are made of fantastic quality and style. They are on the pricier side, however. ColourPop is known for being extremely budget-friendly while boasting excellent formulas and having extensive shade ranges. As a woman of color who’s often on a budget, it’s one of my favorite beauty brands for those reasons. So, to say I’ll try my best to get some items in this collection before they sell out — which, knowing every past ColourPop collection, will likely be quicker than you think — is a bit of an understatement.

The ColourPop x Animal Crossing: New Horizons collection will be released on Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. PT/1:00 p.m. ET over at ColourPop’s website.
